  • When approaching a parent about the developmental screening of a child by first telling them what things the child needs to work on (not belittling the child), improvements that are needed, etc. I would then follow that up with what the child is good or excelling at. I think it would also be a good idea to have documentation/notes ready.

  • Observing and documenting a child’s behavior can help providers to give them what they need in the future to help a child grow. It can help them deal with difficult situations that might appear in time.

    My thoughts on screen time in childcare are that it is only okay in small periods of time. It should be educational, and should be teaching the child something of value. I do not think screen time is a good thing in childcare if you are using it to distract a child. There are plenty of other things to distract a child with; books, toys, talking, games, etc.

    When a child shows you something, it is important to return by encouraging them by saying words of affirmation and showing them you are focusing on the same thing as they are.
