To engage children in meaningful learning, I should use materials that reflect the background and practices of the children and their families. The activities should develop their social skills, knowledge, and encourage critical thinking.

Be consistent with your routine, and make the schedule visible to help the kids understand the routine.

I think it is especially important that the environment is safe, clean, stimulating, and nurturing for the children and that all of the tools and toys they need are set up at their height level.

When approaching a parent about a developmental screening of their child, I should first work with a coworker to script my discussion with the parent. I should provide the family with good documentation of my observations and offer them local resources so they can take the next steps.

Observing and documenting a child’s development helps early learning providers understand the child’s developmental stage and enables them to create an appropriate curriculum to support their growth.

I think screen time in child care should be limited. At a care facility, it’s important we give children opportunities to learn, experience, and have fun without screens.

I am not surprised by the WACs. They are essential for safe childcare practices. They will influence me in a good way because it will help ensure the well-being and healthy development of the children I care for, as well as my commitment to working with the children’s families.
