These are included in the parent handbook, which parents are asked to read and acknowledge. This early communication helps set the tone for the school year and encourages children to follow their parents’ example in respecting and understanding classroom guidelines. By involving families from the start, we create a consistent and supportive environment for our little ones.

The children are also encouraged to ask questions while reading the book. Sometimes the questions are about difficult words or about the characters. After the book is over, we will have conversations about the book. I often ask questions about the theme, the characters that children like, or their opinions about the actions taken by these characters. I encourage children to build on the questions answered by others and speak about differing opinions.

Encouraging interactions with other children during activity or play time, structuring specific group projects where children participate and learn from each other, seeking active participation and building on each other’s thoughts during story time are other examples of strategies to encourage social engagement.
