I would have a conversation with the parent discussing what is making them so late and informing on the issues regarding their late arrival. I would inform the parent of the policies of the daycare regarding pick up and drop off as well as explain to them that it requires staff to stay longer when they are late. If it happened again then I would give them a written notice.

The messages that the WAC’s convey regarding diversity is that children and parents need to be accepted and respected regardless of their culture, religious beliefs, etc. Diversity requires others to be inclusive, understanding and respectful which are all great things for children to learn. The WAC’s encourage teachers to collaborate with families as well as the children to make their experience the best it can be at the childcare facility. Diversity encourages teachers to teach students about other peoples cultures making children feel more included.

    1. I discovered that there is a lot more that goes into becoming a licensed provider than I thought, but they are all understandable requirements given the job.

    2. I was not particularly surprised by any of the WAC’s but I did find WAC 110-300- 0005 very interesting because I did not realize that there were so many definitions that childcare providers were required to learn.

    3. I can very clearly see how the WAC’s influence my day-to-day practice as a childcare provider. A lot of the WAC’s were somewhat common sense and or things that have been learned from other experiences whether that be school, another job, etc. Other WAC”s were not common sense but were entirely understandable requirements for someone in childcare. Many WAC’s are practices that are used daily within a childcare setting and staff may be entirely unaware they are using them.
