Yes, working with children can indeed be rewarding but also emotionally taxing at times. To release stress, I’ve found several techniques that work for me. First and foremost, self-care is essential. Taking breaks, whether short walks or moments of quiet reflection, helps me recharge. Additionally, sharing experiences and challenges with colleagues or a support network can be incredibly cathartic. Engaging in physical activities like yoga or jogging helps alleviate stress, and practicing mindfulness and deep breathing exercises has been invaluable for staying centered during chaotic moments. Ultimately, it’s crucial to recognize when stress is building and to proactively address it, ensuring that I can continue providing the best care for the children in my charge.

MemberSeptember 22, 2023 at 12:36 amI find time in nature is the best cure for stress. The fresh air, sounds of birds, being alone for a bit…all help me to get reground and refocused. When unable to do that, deep breathing often helps.

MemberSeptember 26, 2023 at 3:17 amI have found that along with mediation and jogging, a crucial part of my stress release process is to have a post-work decompression time. I’ve asked my family members to give me at least a half hour when I get home to not ask for things or get in my space (easier now that everyone is a teen or older). After a little while I feel ready to jump back into life at home.

MemberSeptember 27, 2023 at 11:58 pmWhen I’m working with children, one of the main ways I distress is by going somewhere completely quiet for a break. Taking a few minutes away from the noise is a nice reset.

MemberOctober 1, 2023 at 7:44 pmTo help relieve stress, I like to go for a walk, listen to music, or watch a comfort movie/show. If I am in the moment with a child, I like to take deep breathes and give each of us some distance to calm down and think about both of our behaviors.
