Take a break. Listen to the music. Scroll down to the old picture and think about the good memories.

Developing a community within my coworkers to be able to talk to each other and support each other through the hard times. As well as taking lots of naps when possible
-
I find that time outside in nature, deep breathing, and spending time with friends are all great ways for me to recoup when I have had a demanding day working with children.
-
I find it helps to pause and ground myself through deep breathing or a short mindful moment during the day. Observing the children quietly can also be restorative—it reconnects me with the joy of their learning. Outside of the classroom, spending time in nature, walking/hiking, journaling, or practicing yoga helps release stress and keeps me present for the children.
-
Great insights, Marcia! Your techniques for grounding and reconnecting with nature are beneficial for maintaining emotional well-being.

MemberJuly 7, 2025 at 9:27 pmI found that playing with the children’s toys while I have difficult conversations with them has allowed us both to listen more calmly. Knowing my limits and asking to switch out when I know I don’t have the rapport with the child that is necessary. Talking to my roommate and mom when I feel discouraged. Asking for a cleaning task to do.
-
Great insights, Milo! Using play to facilitate difficult conversations is a thoughtful approach. Seeking support is essential for self-care.

MemberJuly 9, 2025 at 8:02 pmThere are a lot of ways that help me to calm down after a stressful or emotional day. One is that I take some time to enjoy nature; either on a quick walk, or a moment just sitting in the sun. I also like to cook, so after a long day, making a meal helps me to put focus into something I enjoy, and I get a yummy meal out of it. I also like to listen to music, play video games, and workout at the end of a workday to help my body feel strong and relieve any leftover stress.
-
Great strategies, Marissa! Engaging in nature and hobbies like cooking can truly rejuvenate and bring balance after a tough day.

Deep breathing, mini mindful breaks (10 min) support circles, stretching your body or a small walk, laughter and humor with a trusted partner. I prefer to play a fun song and maybe even do a little dance to pump myself back up to positive.

MemberJuly 10, 2025 at 10:58 pmThe techniques I’ve found that I utilize to release stress while working in child care programs is to use the breathing method (deep breath in, hold, deep breath out)—repeat & complete slowly. Also if I am not at work or not in the presence of kids that I need to watch, I find that at home to unwind from the day I like to listen to calming music (waves, or instrumental music), take deep breaths, lay in bed face down & practice this for a few minutes to slow my heart rate if I am really anxious.
-
Great strategies, Hannah! Breathing exercises and calming music are effective ways to manage stress. Keep prioritizing self-care!
