Yes much of the information is very useful.

While completing the activity and delving into the Washington Administrative Codes (WACs) for early learning, I discovered the comprehensive and specific guidelines that govern our field. I was somewhat surprised by the level of detail and rigor in these regulations, particularly regarding health and safety protocols, staff qualifications, and curriculum standards. It’s clear that adhering to the WACs is essential, as they provide a framework for ensuring the well-being and educational development of the children we care for. These regulations will undoubtedly influence my day-to-day practice by serving as a reliable reference for maintaining a safe and enriching environment, guiding curriculum planning, and ensuring that our program consistently meets the highest standards of professionalism and quality in early childhood education.

MemberSeptember 27, 2023 at 8:14 pmI think the main thing that surprised me was that all of the different requirements are all related. All of them are dependent about upon the others. When answering the questions about the different areas and what they mean, there was more than one wac that you could refer to it wasn’t just one that you could go back to as a reference to get your information or to figure out what you would need to do in a certain situation. I was very impressed with the depth and the thoroughness in the whole process. One of the things that did surprise me was when it came to restraining a child, I didn’t think that that was even allowed for them to be touched no matter what the circumstances so it was good to read that there are certain circumstances as in the case of them hurting themselves or hurting another child or hurting the teacher where you can actually put your hands on them to restrain them and to keep them safe so that was a relief to see that that there is some answer for that. I can only imagine that without all of these guidelines to go by there would be total chaos in any issue that came up in child care. It’s nice to see everything written down and spelled out and specially for staff and the families to be able to go to and look at.

MemberSeptember 27, 2023 at 10:34 pmI discovered that they are very thorough in explaining everything in a way that makes sense. They also are very strict on certain things but that is a good thing. I was surprised to learn that a lot of the rules are very strict, but I think it’s good to have all of the structure that way things won’t go wrong. I can see how I wull use these codes in work everyday that way I know that I am doing all I can to make sure these kids are getting the proper care they need.

2. I was actually surprised to see “WAC 110-300-0490” This wac covers Child restraint.
3. I can see how the WACs will influence our care for children because it sets a standard for great care for those on our program, and also ensures our safety for both staff and students/families.

- What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I discovered how child records had to be kept and organized in the facility and off the facility. WAC 110-300-0460
- Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I was surprised by the WAC 110-300-0505 regarding Postings. It was nice to be reminded about the requirements.
- Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? After reviewing much of the other WACs I can definitely agree WAC has an influence on the day to day practice. There are many sections not in the activity that include Food and Nutrition, Health practices, and Environment. These sections alone have a great deal of influence on the day to day practice in caring for children.

- What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity?
I learned about the serving children experiencing homelessness training, and the EQEL in-service training, as well as learning about 10-hr annual training required for Lead Teachers. - Were you surprised by any of the WACs?
I was not surprised by any of the WACs, they make sense concerning the welfare and safety of the children in a center’s care/guidance. Safety precautions, accountability to the wellbeing of a the child, and overall professional conduct while servicing families, come with codes to follow. This makes sense to me. - Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not?
I can see the WACs influencing me already. I would appreciate my own copy of this in my home, so I can continue learning, how to make the codes more commonplace in concept, and learning the definitions as well, so as parents and staff are aware of their rights as service workers and families.

I found out there are lot more interesting information that I was not aware of. For example in the license section.
2. Were you surprise by any of the WACs?
Something that surprised me was in the Retaining facility and program records section. That attendance records must be kept for a minimum of 5 years.
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not?
WACs have a big influence in my practice, because we have a guide of how to manage different situations on our daily life at the center.

</div>1. While completing the activity, what I discovered about the WACs was that they are easily accessible to look up online with the guidebook and that there is a WAC for pretty much everything related to running an early learning child care facility.
2. The WAC I was most surprised by was the one pertaining to training requirements. I did not realize how many need to be renewed annually.
3. I can see how the WACs will influence my day-to-day practice in caring for children because they must be followed to keep our license and use best practices. There’s WACs pertaining to everything from serving food to putting an infant to sleep safely, so these guidelines will be a part of every minute of the day for me as an infant teacher.

- Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? MemberOctober 7, 2023 at 10:44 pm1. I discovered how detailed the WACs are and just more about them in general. For example, I didn’t know that people as young as 14 could work at an ECE facility.
2. I was surprised that physical restraint can be used, as long as it’s as gentle as possible and for as short as it can be, which makes sense.
3. Yes, the WACs ensure that not only we are up to code but also that we are doing the best we can for the children in our care
