I realized how detailed the WAC is which I believe is so great. I think that the more detailed it can be the less room for guessing & self-interpreting there is. The rules are clear & straightforward. I think that this will effect my day-to-day because I know I am being held to a standard of care that these children & families deserve, so I will take my job more seriously, knowing there is something & someone to hold myself & my center accountable for the care of these children.

There a lot of WACs but they are all very specific and cover every base to keep everyone, students and teachers, safe.

2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs?

No, I’ve had previous experience in daycares. Attending and volunteering.

3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? Yes, I can see how the WAC’s would influence the day-to-day in a positive way keeping the children safe and the teacher’s safe as well.

1. I found that discrimination in the workplace is truly unacceptable for everyone has a right to be there and just because we are different from one another, it doesn’t mean we should receive or give such treatment to our coworkers.

2. I never found something actually surprising, I actually find these codes quite true and effective.

3. I can see why they could affect my day-to-day basis. I should try to live by these codes as long as I’m in the daycare caring for other children, and also while I’m with my coworkers.

1. I will be honest I have been in childcare for a few years and my first go at the 30 hours didn’t go through. So reading through the WACs I knew most of the information so leading into question 2…
2. I was surprised at the amount of time the attendances were needed to be kept I knew we had to keep them, but not for 5 years. It does make sense though to keep them for a while.
3. Like I said in the first question I’ve been in childcare for awhile, but it’s definitely shown how they influence. I feel like it really helps gives everything in the center and classrooms structure, since there are a lot of rules and things to follow it makes it a lot more clear on what needs to be done/happen!

1. I discovered/learned that there are a lot of WACs that Washington state requires but it’s also very understandable because you’re working with children.

2. I wasn’t really surprised by any of the WACs because there all requirements to working with children that need to be followed.

3. These requirements will for sure influence my day to day work with children. Learning these requirements allowed me to see what needs to be done and what is my job to look out for while working with these children.

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? The WAC’s on child care are numerous and detailed.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? Not particularly, however, I have worked for DCYF and am a foster parent.
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? Absolutely. WACs help to ensure the consistency and standard of care. Following them should be a part of any licensed child care program’s daily routines.

1) I discovered that each WAC has very clear language. I also noticed that there are a lot of state requirements that need to be met by the program and staff.

2) I wasn’t really surprised by any of the WACs. I’ve gone through them before and I just found them interesting to read up on.

3) Having to keep in mind restrictions, requirements, and know whether or not you or the program is doing something against a WAC can definitely influence day to day practice, however, I don’t believe it should be something that turns into paranoia.

I discovered there are many of them, but that they are all very helpful for knowing important things about working at or running a childcare facility.

2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs?

To be honest, no I was not. They all made sense as to why they were mentioned and how they were conducted

3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children?

Yes I can

Why or why not? There are many that I can see being helpful in just the day to day working with children. But it also seems they will be helpful in other cases where a decision must be made and these can be used as a guide line to do so in accordance with the state law but also in the best interest for the staff, children, and/or family involved.

1. I learned about how many requirements there actually are and tha tI must be compliant with and aware of.

2. I honestly was not surprised by any of the WACs because they were all reasonable and seemed necessary for the safety and well-being of the children.

3. It is very visible ow the WACs will affect how I care for the children because there a lot of rules and requirements that are necessary for me to follow and understand.

What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? <strong style=”background-color: var(–bb-content-background-color); font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: var(–bb-body-text-color);”>There were a lot more than I originally assumed there would be. The way that they are sorted is helpful especially if you need to look up something specific.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I think I was surprised the most by the expulsion section. Expulsion is a big thing that sometimes has to happen, from an employee point of view that’s something I don’t necessarily think about often but I completely understand that in some cases it needs to happen.
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? The WACs absolutely influence my day-to-day practice in caring for children. The WACs are the rules which run the program smoothly, without them the programs can be extremely dangerous and unhelpful for developing children.

I discovered many rules and regulations that I did not know about prior to reading the WACs; this also made me realize how thorough childcare licensing is and makes me think about places I have worked in the past that did not require any training. The WACs demonstrated how important ethical childcare is for the development of early learners.

I was surprised by some of the WACs regarding food; I did not know that you have to obtain a food workers card.

I know that the WACs will influence my work with children because they provide guidelines and information that I can fall back on if I need extra support; they help shape curriculums for other educators that I may work with as well.
