The WAC’s are very concise and straight to the point. There is no confusion for me when reading the WAC’s.
I wasn’t surprised by the WAC’s at all. I believe these are great ways to access easy learning when working in child care programs.
I can definitely see how the WAC’s will influence my day-to-day practice in caring for children. Some of the items discussed in the WAC’s helped me prepare for some situations I wouldn’t know how to handle properly.

I discovered that there are a ton of WACs and that there is one for definitions, which I am very thankful for.
I was confused when I first saw WAC 110-300-505 because it was titled “Postings” and that is very vague. After reading it, it was very clear as to what it was about. I honestly didn’t know that there were rules for what is to be posted on the walls of a child learning center.
A lot of these would for sure influence day to day practice. A lot of them are about training, general questions, interactions and curriculum information, how to keep children safe and well taken care of, as well as so much more.

MemberNovember 3, 2023 at 4:00 am- I discovered early childhood education has many more legal requirements for entry-level service providers than any job I’ve worked at in the past.
- None of them were surprising after thinking about it, but initially I was surprised at the extent and level of detail required for child records, and the length of time they must be retained. Mostly that health records should be updated yearly (I wonder whether the responsibility for that lies with the parent or provider, and what needs to be included. Do you need to keep some standard medical record, or just updates to certain aspects? [vaccinations, allergies, etc]).
- Yep, I can see how this will effect my day-to-day. It requires certain things about the facility which will effect my working environment, and many rules about things I will have to do or maintain.

MemberNovember 5, 2023 at 5:11 amI as surprised by how extensive the WACs are, there are so many and are extremely detailed. When just seeing them for the first time it is overwhelming the amount of information and the expectation to know them. I was also surprised to earn that in the future all teachers will be requried to have a ECE certificate. I am curious to learn how you go about getting one and how long it takes.

MemberNovember 5, 2023 at 9:19 am1-The importance of being prepared, trained and licensed to deal with a child.
2-No, because I think that is the minimum we should know and have as information to deal with early childhood training.
3-Yes, because I will be prepared to deal with different situations. Because even updating training, classes and licenses, I will be remembering and updating myself on standards and conduct. -
