1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? There is a lot of little things that need to be followed because the make the biggest difference. Like hand washings and curriculum being taught. These play a big impact on the development of the children you are working with. There is a lot of big things too that always will be followed and you need to stay updated if anything changes.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? Not really everything was straight forward. I think if anything its the ECE requirement that is going into effect and the little trainings like learning more about sleep, I had no idea how many deaths are sleep related.

Oh yes, everything in these policies are very carefully thought out and needed to make sure the development of children is being taken seriously. Everyday in the classroom each teacher should be constantly thinking about these to make sure the environment is safe.

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? That every section is very in depth and a little overwhelming, but if you read though them carefully you will have a very comprehensive understanding of the rules.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I was a little surprised by all of the info that must be kept in each child’s file (110-300-0460).
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? I do see that the WACs will impact my day-to-day. It will inform me on what I need to do to be the best, most professional educator I can and also allows me to understand what/why my supervisor asks of me.

1. There are a lot of requirements that need to be followed in order to be compliant with the standards for Washington state.

   Physical restraint must only be used if a child’s safety or the safety of others is threatened. I am glad that physically restraining a child is fine if the safety of the child and others is at stake. The policy procedures for this are important for certain situations.
3. I can see how these WACs influence the day-to-day structure of your program depending on what is happening. It helps when there are steps in place for you to follow and stay in accordance to keep everyone safe, healthy, and learning in a positive environment.

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity?

I discovered that WACs has a section for “promoting acceptance of diversity”. Having it included in their curriculum and also implementing diverse dolls, books, games, music and I think that is so important for young POC’s to have representation and see dolls that look like them and feel like their culture is included and valued.

I found it interesting how In the WACs it had multiple words and their definitions and I think that is so important to educate and give people exposure to things they probably had no prior knowledge to and by learning the words and definitions they can be more knowledgeable.

WACs gives me a variety of knowledge so that I can implement in the classroom. For example it gives me information on how to be the best student staff and how to work with the rest of my team in this facility and also provides me with information on how to be the best I can for the children and what they need from staff.

1. I discovered that there are a LOT of rules surrounding how an ELP should be run and there is standard procedure for pretty much everything.

2. I was surprised that there was a section on screen time. I wasn’t expecting it, but I think it’s good to have regulations surrounding that.

3. Yes. If I have any questions or concerns about anything going on in the program, I should be able to find an answer in the WACs document. It provides a clear and precise framework for how I should conduct myself and handle different situations I may encounter.

I discovered that the WACs provide the complete requirements along with all of the details needed to be compliant with the rules of WA State.

I was surprised that under certain circumstances restraints can be applied to a child. The information and method regarding physical restraint is very important and I am glad that it can be found in the WACs in case I ever need to look back at it.

Yes, I can see how the WACs will influence my day-to-day practice in caring for children. That is because the WACs provide the information needed to handle different situations while keeping everyone safe. It also provides information about how to observe children for illness or injury which is very important especially when working with infants and toddlers.
