    1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity?
    2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs?
    3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not?

    1. While I was completing this activity and learning about the WAC I learned that it covers many different aspects of what is needed to run an early learning program. How do all the very specific essentials aspects of the job that make the program run smoothly. For example 110-300-0080 of the WAC covers how important it is for the program to be assessed within a year of it opening. This is so important because it helps the provider have self reflection on their program they are offering.

    2. The aspects that surprised me the most of the WACs is 110-300-0148 which covers Gardens in outdoor early learning program space. Which is really cool that early learning programs are offering that and that the state recognizes it.

    3. Yes I can see how the very clear concise words of the WAC will influence my day-to-day when caring for children. Because I will be needing to sanitize surfaces, clean up after children. There will be important transitional times and children whose parents we will need to discuss topics with. These layout guidelines for how to do them correctly.

    1. That there are so many different things to follow (and read) within childcare, but I am glad that they are all pretty in-depth things.

    2. I don’t think that I was necessarily surprised by any of the WACs, the one that is most talked about though is the restraint. I know that when it is needed there is a good reason for it.

    3. A lot of the WACs are needed in day to day things while working. Like keeping allergies and emergency contacts up to date yet private from other families. Another good one would be making sure the kids have a routine schedule everyday.

    1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? -Covering everything, as long as you know how to find it, there is very little need to worry about not knowing how to do something or learn what to do in certain situations. Everything is organized to neatly and detailed as to make it as clear as possible for many different scenarios.

    2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? -I remember from what I was a child looking over different papers and such family members had about childhood education and so forth, now going into it myself, it’s amazing how much more there is to it and the amount of care and detail placed into making sure children are provided for and kept safe. While it’s not a specific surprise, it’s a welcomed one.

    3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? -Yes, as someone who tend to fret about following rules to the dot, knowing there is a place for almost all my questions and knowing how to navigate it is a blessing.

    1. What I Discovered About the WACs While Completing the Activity: In reviewing the WACs, I discovered the extensive scope and detail they encompass in regulating early childhood education settings. They cover everything from health and safety requirements, staff qualifications and training, to environmental standards and child-to-staff ratios. The depth of these regulations highlights the state’s commitment to ensuring high-quality care and educational environments for children.

    2. Surprises in the WACs: One aspect that surprised me was the level of specificity in some of the regulations, such as those pertaining to the physical environment and equipment. The WACs not only outline general safety and health standards but also go into specifics, like the size of outdoor play spaces and the types of materials used in the classroom. This level of detail demonstrates the thoroughness with which the state approaches child care and education.

    3. Influence of the WACs on Day-to-Day Practice: The WACs significantly influence my day-to-day practice in caring for children. They serve as a guiding framework ensuring that the environment I provide is safe, nurturing, and conducive to learning. Understanding these regulations helps me make informed decisions about classroom setup, curriculum development, and daily routines. The safety and health standards outlined in the WACs also play a crucial role in how I approach care and supervision, ensuring that the children’s well-being is always prioritized. Additionally, the professional development and staffing requirements outlined in the WACs influence staffing decisions and the overall quality of our program. Overall, these regulations are integral

I learned that the WAC is incredibly informative and useful. A lot of my job was only taught implicitly, so many assumptions were made during this first year of my work with children. This information that people have been talking about on physically restraining a child is pertinent, because I notice people move children in other circumstances too.

It seems that the requirements in the WAC are actually more laid back than what I thought. Pets, many kids in class, not moving them unless absolutely necessary, etc. In other regards it is very strict, and I knew this due to keeping all the records of sunscreen, lotion, attendance, etc.

I found out that following the rules for Washington state is quite a task. There are many requirements, and you have to read, understand, and follow a bunch of rules.

Were you surprised by any of the WACs? WAC PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION AND OVERSIGHT

Licensing Process and INTENT AND AUTHORITY

    3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? Yes, because the WACs (Washington Administrative Codes) serve as a set of guidelines and regulations that outline specific standards and expectations for child care practices.i can ensure that my daily actions adhere to set standards, ensuring a safe and effective environment for child care. The WACs give a framework that covers numerous elements of child care, impacting how I approach routines, activities, safety measures, and overall care practices to fulfill the stated criteria set by the state.<br style=”background-color: var(–bb-content-background-color); font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: var(–bb-body-text-color);”>

The WACs cover a great deal. If a question arises, they are a good place to search for an answer. The definitions are very specific. I would imagine that WACs are not something you look at once, but refer to frequently. It’s kind of overwhelming but also comforting to know how much thought went into coming up with these guidelines.
