    1) I was surprised to learn just how specific and thorough Washington’s guidelines for childcare were. I knew they had a lot of specific details and were strict but I did not realize just how specific and strict they were!

    2) I was a little surprised by one of the WAC’s, WAC 110-300-0335 (1), which discusses the physical restraint of a child. Physical restraint must only be used if that child or another child’s safety is threatened. This makes complete sense to me I was just shocked to see that it had to be made into a rule rather than it being common sense. I also found it interesting how fine the line between placing a child in a high chair and physical restraint it.

    3) I think that the WAC’s will influence my care for children as it will help me think about the ramifications of my actions as well as what activities I am or am not allowed to do and why that is the case.

I learned that the WACs are super specific and there are a lot of requirements that need to be followed to be compliant with the state laws. I was most suprised with the physical restraint WAC rule because it was specific to let me know when providers can use that measure safely in a facility.

I learned that there are a lot of requirements that need to be followed in order to be compliant with the standards for Washington state. There were definitely more than I thought there would be too!

I can see how WAC will have an influence on my day to day because there may be some circumstances that may arise in the facility in which WAC can be referred to. Also the WAC can be used in the handbook which will be provided to parents so the rules and regulations are clear to the staff and families.

I learned that there are a lot of things required to work provide care for children.

Nothing really seemed to surprise me. I would expect there to be lots of rules and regulations when caring for children. I feel having these rules not only protects children and keeps those caring for them accountable but also provides some peace of mind for the parents of these children.

I feel the WAC’s will affect my day to day caring for children because they have outlined for me standards that need to be followed and making me more accountable.

    1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity?

Some of the Professional Practice answers can not be found in the WACs. It seems the WACs have been updated. Still, I appreciate all the clear writings, so l learned a lot.

    2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs?

I wasn’t surprised because all the things from the WACs are super familiar to my daily job for last eighteen years. All the things are important and detailed to early learning centers. We need to follow all the rules and do the job carefully to make sure to give children the best and safest environment to experience learning.

    3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not?

It will help a lot when I substitue for younger classes next time. Now I know where to find clear standard procedures.

I feel like maybe i’m missing something but I am not seeing any questions… just the title. Is it an implied question based on the title?

    1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I discovered that a lot of these should be common sense for anyone getting into child care. I would be a bit concerned if someone were to be completely baseless for 99% of these.
    2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? Not really, I completed all of the training courses in the dcyf student portal before taking this class. The only one that feels a bit surprising is the physical restraint portion because growing up in public school there were a lot of instances where they physically held down or removed problem children who were special needs and no one batted an eye. It always upset us students.
    3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? Yes I can because the WAC is a great guideline for how to behave and handle any situation you will encounter in child care.

Section 110-300-0180 (Meal and snack schedule) states, “At least once per day, an early learning provider must offer children an opportunity for developmentally appropriate tooth brushing activities.” This sentence is directly after details about nighttime policies and procedures, and as tooth brushing is a task to be effectively completed just before sleeping, the assumption, therefore, is that tooth brushing is a nighttime routine and thereby only applies to early learning programs that extend well into the evening. However, the time of day is not listed as a part of this requirement, leading me to wonder if all early learning programs are supposed to include tooth brushing practices, or if such an activity is only required for programs that are open far into the evening.

    1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I discovered that the Early Learning Licensing Guidebook is very comprehensive. I appreciate the thoroughness that allows for consistency around safety, training level and documentation amongst EC programs while still allowing teachers to have freedom to meet the unique circumstances of meeting each child in a human way.
    2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I was surprised to see so many requirements for documentation in a particular way and for them to be kept for a certain amount of time.
    3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? Because it is fairly clearly organized, I can see myself returning to this form if I come across a situation that I am curious about best practices or compliance…

    1. Q) What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity?
      A) An individual or entity
that provides child care and early learning services for a group of
children, birth through twelve years of age, must be licensed by the
      department.
    2. Q) Were you surprised by any of the WACs?
      A) I was surprised by all the restrictions on who the department must not license.
    3. Q)Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not?
      A) Yes, it seems to me that licensing restrictions help prevent conflicts of interests whereby department employees are not allowed to license other department personnel or their family members in order to prevent the granting of favors.

1 While completing the activity, I’ve discovered that the wacs are extremely well thought through and indepth. It must’ve taken a team months to fabricate and perfect every code as well as input, all of its information. And no details are missed. From clothing to how high the gravel is allowed to be!

2 I was surprised by quite a few of the codes that I looked at, one of them that I was the most surprised about is that children have to brush their teeth throughout the day, when I was a kid that was never enforced as we always lose our first set of teeth, so I found this very interesting.

3 I think in general, it’s not the codes that will specifically effect my day to day, but more over the thought, and detail put into them. Very often I forget when caring for a child how important my work is. Very often I find it easy to forget all the little details and rules,This activity has truly made me realize how much detail and thought there should be.

    1. I discovered that the WACs can be overwhelming.
    2. I wasn’t surprised by any of the WACs as I’ve had to read them in the past and had a pretty good idea of what they consisted of.
    3. I believe that the WACs most certainly will effect the day to day operations of my early learning program and the way I work. The WACs have clear guidelines that we must follow.

    1. Children’s general well-being, learning, and conduct are greatly influenced by the environments in which they are raised and develop. Several regulatory frameworks, such as the Washington Administrative Code (WAC), highlight how crucial it is to provide a welcoming and secure atmosphere for kids enrolled in early learning programs because they understand how important this is.

    2. Terms like “transgender” and “bisexual” are included in the definitions of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) as a sign of the code’s dedication to diversity and acknowledging a range of identities and experiences. The phrases “sexual orientation” and “gender identity,” respectively, are included in regulation papers, which emphasizes how crucial it is to establish a welcoming and safe environment in early learning programs.

    3. With its focus on inclusion and support, the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) provisions are essential in fostering a helpful and loving atmosphere for young workers in early learning settings. The inclusiveness of the WAC legislation is intended to promote a culture that values diversity, respect, and equity in addition to adhering to legal requirements. Which are so influential to workers and give them the opportunity to use throughout their everyday lives which I will be using.
