I discovered that the WACs are very thorough and organized. They seem to have one for each possible thing that could take place in the classroom (or at least the more common ones). No, I wasn’t surprised by them. I just was kind of overwhelmed with how many there are. Yes, this would be helpful to reference if I run into something as a teacher. Also, it’s good that there is something that’s written to help guide teachers through caring for the kids.

    1. I discovered that there are a very large number of guidelines that need to be followed by any licensed childcare facility, significantly more than I thought.

    2. Most of the WACs made sense to me, I was not very surprised by any of them.

    3. I will see the WACs in my day-to-day work through routines and procedures in place at my center that aid in keeping compliance with all of the guidelines for licensed childcare facilities.

    1. I found out there are a ton of rules for any daycare to follow, way more than I thought.

    2. I understood most of the rules. None of them really shocked me.

    3. I’ll notice these rules in my everyday job by following the routines and procedures at my center to make sure we’re sticking to all the daycare rules.

They are straight forward and easy to find. I was not surprised about any of the WAC’s. Yes, they offer a guildline which to follow to create the safest, environment for children to have fun and learn in,

    1. I discovered that there are way more WACs than I originally thought!

    2. I wasn’t surprised by any of the WACs, they all made sense for this field of work.

    3. I can see how the WACs will influence my day-to-day practice in caring for children as they are all standards of care that I will need to follow and uphold on a daily basis.

    1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity?

I discovered there is a WAC for just about everything. They are very thorough and try to cover most activities and responsibilities in child care and early learning.

    2. <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>Were you surprised by any of the WACs?

I was surprised by how many WACs there really are!

    3. <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not?

Yes, since the WACs cover virtually everything we do, our day-to-day practice of caring for children is directly influenced and shaped.

One thing I found interesting while doing this activity is the ratio for kids to teachers. as well as learning centers are required to provide the learning tools and materials for the kids to learn. I work at a learning center so it was interesting to learn that.

I do not think I was surprised by anything I learned from the activity, it was a little overwhelming by all the information but I learned a lot.

I definitely can see how this will affect my day to day in early childhood education. WACs remind me of how to follow the rules and guidelines to follow.

    1. There is so much information here applying to things I wouldn’t have even thought about. The WACs are extremely detailed and less generalized than I thought they’d be. I also get to see how requirements in Washington differ from those in Oregon.

    2. WAC 110-300-0107, (b), #3 surprised me a bit. I didn’t know extra in-service hours could be carried over into the next year. I thought all 10 hours would have to be renewed yearly no matter what.

    3. Every child and family is different from the next and has different needs, behaviors, preferences, etc. While teaching in Oregon, I’d often come upon situations where a family or child would ask for a certain accommodation and I would have to double check with our licensing and state requirements that I could provide what was asked.

1.) I noticed how WACs are very detailed. It seems very well thought out to cover any circumstance with clear and concise information.

    2. I was surprised to find out that facilities must provide the materials to students.

    3. Yes, we daily need to apply these guidelines and make it second nature so we can act this way remotely

There are a lot of WACs to guide our work in the Early Learning and Child Care. It is important to keep current on them reviewing often to ensure you are up to date on any changes in order to maintain safety for the children and effectively provide services to meet the program goals.

    1. I learned that there are many regulations that must be followed. I appreciate it as all these regulations lead to a safe and age appropriate space for young children.

    2. WAC 110-300-0270 Overnight care. This surprised me as I was not aware that child care centers have this ability. Also, physical restrain WAC 110-300-0335 Physical restraint.

    3. Yes, important reminders and boundaries so that I can provide a place of not only learning but also safety for all children.

    1. I discovered that the WAC’s are constantly updated through the years, even in recent years more has been added which has been very surprising, though very comforting to know its continual evolution.

    2. I was surprised by WAC 110-300-0225, I wasn’t aware animals beyond fish and reptiles were allowed to be licensed to be around children in an early learning environment at all.

    3. Yes, I can. I feel as though the WAC’s are extremely helpful as a guideline to answer any and all questions on what is allowed and expected in a workplace, In difficult situations I feel comfortable to turn to WAC’s to find an answer and solution.
