While doing this activity I discovered WACs are designed to be interconnected and they are designed so that the child care program has the policy clearly written out, it gives a description of how to practice the policy, what documents you need to collect and how to learn or train so that you can carry-out the policy correctly

Were you surprised by any of the WACs

I was not really surprised by any of the WACs because they are all familiar to me already given my background but I was a little pleasantly surprised that they require early childcare providers to continue there education because the world of childcare is always growing and changing for the better and I think it is important to stay up to date.

I can see how the WACs will influence my day-to-day because these guidelines are in place to keep your children safe and your childcare program licensed. I think that all of these guidelines are designed by people who care about children and their well-being so it is important to follow these for the safety of the children in your care.

1. For anyone wishing to work in child development or create their own center, the WAC is a priceless resource. It is quite long and detailed, yet reading it could be a little intimidating at times.

2. More than anything else, I was fascinated by the segment that discussed the need of early intervention and the implications it holds for students with special needs as opposed to typically developing kids.

2. WAC 110-300-0465 states that attendance records must be kept for a minimum of 5 years. This was something that I wasn’t aware of.

It is sometimes difficult to get to the core of the information you are looking for in the WAC as there is so much information in each one. Having reviewed a lot of WACs, as a parent and a future day care owner, I appreciate how thorough the governance is for the licensing of day cares.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? Not by any one in particular but I am surprised by the level oof detail in some, and by the extent to which the department manages the licensing. The WACs have helped me develop a better appreciation of the seriousness of opening a day care and providing these services.

While completing the activity, I discovered just how detailed and comprehensive the Washington Administrative Codes (WACs) are, especially since I wasn’t very familiar with them before, being new to the field. I was particularly surprised by how thorough the WACs are, covering everything from safety standards to educational practices, ensuring that all aspects of early childhood education are well-regulated.

I can definitely see how the WACs will influence my day-to-day practice in the classroom. Hello!

I discovered the extreme importance of understanding why laws and regulations are placed. Simply knowing and following the directors leads on the requirements that are needed is one mindset but truly taking the time to understand why these laws are put into place opens a whole different mindset. This requires more time to comprehend the reading of WAC. I was surprised how overwhelming it was to comprehend the reading. I also was surprised with the amount of documentation that is needed for every child and the requirements that must be met to run a center. I am glad that this training is put into place because I now have a better understanding of the regulations and it is now embedded in my mind when I am working with infants and setting up my future classroom.
