1. What did you discover about the WAC’s while completing the activity? I discovered lots of words that you should practice not saying in front of the kids. I also learned more about being a mandated reporter and about safe sleep.

2. Were you surprised about any of the WAC’s? Nothing really surprised me about the rules I think that they all make lots of sense and I am going to try my hardest as a childcare provider to hold myself accountable in following these rules.

3. Can you see how the WAC’s will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? Yes most definitely, I will always be thinking about the rules and how to follow them best and if i catch myself not following one to my best ability I will stop and think about how I should’ve reacted in that situation and how I can fix it for next time so it doesn’t happen again and the more that I practice it, even at home away from work the better I will be able to follow.

I discovered how detailed the WACS are and I was surprised how many there are and the depth of the detail in each. I can see how they will effect my day to day practices in caring for children because they have gone in to such detail to have a code for every aspect of child care, making sure there was no stone left unturned.

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity?

I discovered the depth, specificity, and necessity of the WACs. They are not only necessary but incredibly important in maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment.

2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs?

One thing that surprised me about the WACs is the number of codes for teachers, ELPs, and volunteers versus the number of codes for administrators. I have no negative or positive feelings about this difference but when browsing codes in Handout B-2 and looking over the legislature in general, it seems that administrators have a lot fewer requirements compared to active child education facilitators.

3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not?

WACs are always in my mind when I am actively caring for children, making sure all my practices are safe, legal, and effective.

1.) I discovered that each section has a detailed explanation that reflects creating a better and safe space for children to learn and explore.

2) I was surprised that everything was covered so well and in depth.

I didn’t really enjoy this activity. First, I was looking for a question that was nowhere to be found in any of the WAC #’s, so I had to make up my own question that I thought was the best for the WAC #. I thought the information was great to know, but a lot of reading for what was said in each WAC # sheet(s). I learned that the state has a lot of rules about what records need to be kept and how long they should be kept. Would be useful to have a cheat sheet at desk for people who deal with the record keeping process.

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? The WACS guidlines are very informative and everything I read in the WAC is how my childcare center is where I work at.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I was not surprised by any of them.

I can see how it influences my day-to-day practice in caring for children because the guidelines help the children and the childcare worker in order to be the best version of their selves. The guidelines help the children learn like having stuff at eye level, and it helps the childcare worker learn how to properly and Safley teach the children.

1. The thing I found in the WAC is the thoroughness, the breadth of each one.

2. What surprised me the most was that there was an address for the HAC center and animals.

3. The WAC will definitely impact my daily childcare practice because it allows me to focus on the rules set for the care I will provide.

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I discover there is a lot of in detail information that covers a very wide spectrum of early learning.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I was surprised that child records have to be kept for up to 3 years.

The answer is yes and the reason being is that there are so many and It can be a bit overwhelming to remember them all but they are very important things to practice in your day to day with children.

1. While researching the WACs and completing the activity I discovered that you need to have paperwork in order for all children injury report, activities, special needs, treatment and permission and making sure parents are up to date on everything of child.
2. I was surprised by the WACs that almost make it seem like they are another parent because in case of needed medical treatment they can get permission from parent to get them the care necessary.
3. I can see how the WACs will influence my day-to-day practice in caring for children because I will have to be held to all these standards and responsibilities of any other child in my care.

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? An assistant teacher needs to be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent and must have an ECE certificate within five years of being hired.

3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? I can see the the WACs will influence my practice in caring for children because they give guidelines and rules to help keep everyone safe and happy.

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? The WACS provide childcare workers with the foundations of a fun, safe, environment for children. I discovered a multitude of WACS that I found interesting. For example, I found 110-3000-0140 Room arrangement, child-related displays, private space, and belongings interesting because the WAC helps every child in a classroom have access to fun activities while also the childcare provider is able to supervise the children playing independently.

2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? Not really- I expected Washington State to have very high standards for early learning programs.

1. I discovered that WACs are thorough, detailed guides to the short and long-term standards and expectations in the runnings of a childcare facility.
2. I was surprised by the amount of years facilities are required to keep program records such as attendance for 5 years. WAC 110-300-0465
