1. The Licensing requirements are written as regulations that are part of the Washington
Administrative Code . These regulations provide the clear requirements for operating a licensed
early learning program. The WAC is the primary source of information for Licensing regulations for
early learning professionals.
2. No, I did not surprised. Everything is clearly written and structured to ensure complience with state regulations.
3. Yes, the WACs will have a significant influence on daily childcare practices. They provide guidelines on safety, curriculum, staff qualifications, which help maintain a high standard of care and professionalism.

MemberFebruary 27, 2025 at 9:55 pm- I had a difficult time completing this activity, as there were no questions in the guidebooks given for me to do the activity sheet. I will still try to answer these questions to the best of my ability. <strong style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: var(–bb-body-text-color); background-color: var(–bb-content-background-color);”>What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I realize that it’s quite literally a how-to book on how to provide adequate childcare. It’s more handy than I thought it’d be.
- Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I am surprised and a bit overwhelmed by how much information there is for every WAC.
- Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? I can see how WAC is implemented in everyday policies not only for child safety, but also to document progress/development. It’s a very black-and-white outline for childcare rules.

I discovered that there is so much to WACs and that everything needs to be so detailed. I guess I’m not sure if I was surprised by any of them, but it was surprising how some of the numbers were mixed up. I can see how WACs could make a person be more careful about the things they are doing in the classroom and how they are teaching and caring for the children. This is because there is so much information and it seems very important and serious.

MemberMarch 2, 2025 at 12:43 amWhile completing the activity, I discovered that the <strong data-start=”79″ data-end=”121″>Washington Administrative Codes (WACs) are highly detailed and essential for ensuring the health, safety, and education of children in licensed child care settings. For example, <strong data-start=”261″ data-end=”281″>WAC 110-300-0010 outlines exactly who needs to be licensed, making it clear that any child care program serving more than one family outside of relative care must meet licensing requirements. Additionally, I found specific rules on staff qualifications, such as <strong data-start=”527″ data-end=”547″>WAC 110-300-0100, which details the required training and education levels for early learning professionals. The guidelines on health and safety, like <strong data-start=”682″ data-end=”702″>WAC 110-300-0205, specify sanitation requirements, including handwashing procedures and cleaning schedules to prevent the spread of illness.
Some WACs were surprising, particularly the strict staff-to-child ratios outlined in <strong data-start=”915″ data-end=”935″>WAC 110-300-0350, which ensure children receive adequate supervision based on their age group. I was also surprised by the detailed emergency preparedness requirements in <strong data-start=”1090″ data-end=”1110″>WAC 110-300-0470, which mandate written plans for fires, natural disasters, and lockdown situations. These regulations will significantly influence my daily practice by guiding how I structure activities, maintain a safe and hygienic environment, and interact with families. By following the WACs, I can ensure compliance with licensing standards while providing high-quality care and education to the children in my program.

MemberMarch 2, 2025 at 8:53 amI learned more about WAC and their rooms through the activity. It was new information to know.
I didn’t know about weather conditions prior to reading about WAC and it was informative to know when children can and cannot go outside.
It will definitely influence my day to day activity knowing the rules and regulations.

I discovered that there is a lot that goes into someone getting their license and it’s there in order to protect the children and their families. T<b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: var(–bb-body-text-color);”>he fact that you can’t just get the non expiring license, you have to start with the initial license before you can get the non expiring license
I was surprised by all the training that needs to be completed each year. I didn’t know that someone needed to get new training done each year
I can see how the WACs will influence my day to day practice with caring for children. I feel like its important to remember all the training that you had to go through and remember the policies that keep you in check

MemberMarch 3, 2025 at 3:45 am- What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? Not a ton because I am going through licensing right now and have been over the WAC with a fine toothed comb.
- Were you surprised by any of the WACs? One thing that surprised me initially is that every child has to be served MILK ! None of my families really drink milk with meals and we have lots of dairy allergies and intolerance. Also the mucus…..and they can’t opt out unless they have a doctor’s note . This seems like there is no way to control your child’s diet as a parent. <strong style=”background-color: var(–bb-content-background-color); font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: var(–bb-body-text-color);”>
- Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? Absolutely. I understand its for facilities that wouldn’t be healthful on their own but it sure is alot of extra work for teachers. The licensing laws in Idaho and Oregon are much simpler ! I hope WA state streamlines their licensing practice and doesn’t continue to rely on teacher and directors being able to navigate and understand this incredibly long legal document on their own .

1. I discovered that the WACs have many regulations and standards and are very thorough. This is my first time learning about the WAC and it was a bit overwhelming but it is also understandable as it is a big responsibility working in child care and early learning.
2. As someone who did not have any previous knowledge about WAC, all of it was pretty surprising. Going into child care, I knew I would have to follow rules and regulations but seeing just how many WACs there actually are was a shock.
3. I can see how the WACs can influence my day-to-day practice because they are in place to ensure the safety and well-being of children.

MemberMarch 3, 2025 at 10:36 pm1. While completing this assignment, I discovered that the WACs are extremely specific in wording to ensure proper interpretation of the questions broached. They leave no room for misunderstanding of the exact requirements held for a wide variety of early learning topics by the state of Washington.
2. One WAC that surprised me was 110-300-0005, which described how centers or family homes can request exceptions to Foundational Quality Standards. I assumed these standards would be more rigid, but it was interesting to see that allowances can be made for special circumstances, as well as the process to go about making such a request.
3. These WACs will definitely influence how I care for children on a daily basis, and I’ve already recognized some of these requirements in action at the center where I work. It’s interesting to read up on the specific rules behind why we operate the way we do.
