As a base you need your classroom to be safe, secure, and nurturing. Flow though does wonders for managing and directing children’s behavior. Toddlers are still developing their executive function skills, and if you don’t create a flow through the classroom and break up those open spaces they will run and be more likely to go off activity. Creating an environment that scaffolds their executive function skills is important.

A good early learning environment will have components that are nurturing, attractive, organized and functional. I like the idea of having interest centers that are organized according to likeness (i.e. messy areas together, quiet areas together, and loud areas together). A good environment also needs to include a variety of activities that cater to the different learning preferences of children.

MemberJuly 12, 2023 at 2:06 amI feel that there needs to be a wide variety of activities offered in the early learning classroom so that all children feel confident in something they can do. Some students are great at building with blocks while others excel in arts and crafts. The room should also be inviting so children will want to try different activities. Easy access to materials helps build their independence with shelving and storage that is at their height.

2) A well-planned environment which encourages children to play and grow socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually.
3) Well-defined interest centers which are organized by type, and are accessible to children when they are interested in participating in particular kinds of play. Children will be able to move around the room, make choices, and learn new things.
