    1. Learn About the Child’s Background: Try to understand the child’s cultural background, traditions, and language. This not only shows respect but also helps you connect with the child on a more personal level.

     2.    Inclusive Environment: Create a classroom environment that celebrates diversity. This can be done through books, posters, and learning materials that reflect various cultures and languages, including that of the new child.

     3.    Language Support: If the child speaks a different language, consider learning some basic phrases in their language. This gesture can make them feel more comfortable and welcomed.

     4.    Buddy System: Pair the new child with a buddy who can help them navigate the new environment and make friends. This buddy can be a responsible and empathetic child from your class who shows interest in helping others.

    5.    Cultural Sharing: Invite the child and their family to share aspects of their culture with the class. This could be through storytelling, showing traditional clothing, or even bringing in a traditional dish if feasible.

    6.    Class Discussions: Engage the class in discussions about diversity and inclusiveness. This can be tied into lessons about different countries, languages, and cultures.

    7.    Social Integration Activities: Plan activities that require teamwork and collaboration, encouraging the children to work with different peers, including the new child.

     8.    Empathy and Understanding: Teach empathy by discussing how it feels to be in a new place and the importance of being kind and welcoming to everyone.

    9.    Parental Involvement: Communicate with the parents of the new child to understand their concerns and expectations. Also, keep other parents informed and engaged in the process of welcoming a new child.

    10.   Celebrate Differences and Similarities: Use activities that highlight both the unique qualities and the commonalities that children share, regardless of their background.

The key is to make the child feel valued and included, not just singled out for being different. Your role as a facilitator in building bridges of understanding and friendship among all the children is crucial. This experience can enrich the entire class, fostering a sense of global citizenship and empathy from a young age.

    Strongly Agree:

    • A multicultural education curriculum should be in place in every school.
    • All learning programs should accommodate all children with special needs.
    • My curriculum should be based on each individual child’s current interests.
    • The United States should discontinue relations with countries that engage in human rights violations.

    Agree:

    • Diversity definitely includes race and culture, but doesn’t include age, ability or family make-up.
    • Media in general delivers fair and accurate accounts of events around the country.

    Disagree:

    • Some extended family members may confuse children, so they should not have a voice in raising or educating the child.

    Strongly Disagree:

    • Families should not be expected to be involved in classroom activities.

Regarding the term “POINT OF VIEW” and what influences my thinking or point of view, factors such as family, education, personal experiences, and cultural background all play significant roles. Additionally, exposure to diverse perspectives through media, interactions with peers, and ongoing learning and self-reflection also contribute to shaping my point of view.

People often respond differently when their points of view differ. While it can be challenging to change one’s views, it is not impossible. Change often occurs through open and respectful dialogue, exposure to new information and perspectives, personal growth, and critical thinking. Influences to change one’s perspective may include compelling evidence, empathy, personal experiences, and evolving societal norms. However, change is a gradual process and may not happen instantly. It requires an openness to consider alternative viewpoints and a willingness to learn and adapt.

1: I would welcome this child into the community by talking to him/her about what the schedule is in the classroom and have students welcome him/her by going around and saying their names and (for example) what their favorite color is.

2: I would celebrate their unique characteristics by (for example) if the student likes to color, than we would one day have a coloring day where we color the things we like or we would talk about what things he/she prefers when working on homework, things like that.

3: I would help the other children get to know this child by making group activities where the child and other students would work together and talk to eachother, that way the students get to know the child and vise versa. Also doing group discussions where everyone can meet and discuss about (for example) things they didn’t understand about the homework or questions they have at the end of class before they leave home.

    1. A multicultural education curriculum should be in place in every school Strongly agree-It is needed for students to learn about different cultures since they are going to be surrounded by it each day.
    2. Families should <em style=”background-color: var(–bb-content-background-color); font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: var(–bb-body-text-color);”>not be expected to be involved in classroom activities. Although families are not expected to be involved in classroom activities, it is good to let them know about what is going on inside the classroom to not keep them in the dark.
    3. All learning programs should accommodate all children with special needs. Strongly agree- all learning programs need to be inclusive, so that would include children with special needs so ensure the welcomeness of all children
    4. Some extended family members may confuse children, so they should not have a voice in raising or educating the child. Agree- Although they are not the first family, they are still the family of the child so they should have a voice in raising and educating the child.
    5. My curriculum should be based on each individual child’s current interests. Strongly Disagree- This would not only be difficult but it is not realistic. Although teachers will try to do best at this, it is simply not possible. There are going to be stuff that some children have greater liking than others.
    6. Diversity definitely includes race and culture, but doesn’t include age, ability or family make-up. Strongly Disagree- All of those are included in diversity.
    7. Media in general delivers fair and accurate accounts of events around the country. Disagree- Although they do mostly have accurate accounts of events around the country, that doesn’t mean that they don’t sometimes have inaccurate accounts of the events.
    8. The United States should discontinue relations with countries that engage in human rights violations. Disagree- Everyone makes mistakes, (whether known or not) it does not mean that you should just drop the person, instead try to better them by helping them understand that the things they are doing is wrong is and why they should stop.

A multicultural education should be available in every school. Community leaders, religious organizations, and social workers can also help, this is not something that needs to be done by a teacher on their own. A teacher can get training/information on a culture, welcome families by knowing how to say hello, goodbye and thank you in their language, and celebrate the HELLO of a new child in school. If the class is already diverse, each child’s diversity can be celebrated on a regular basis.

While some factors facilitate perspective change, various barriers can impede it. Open-mindedness, a willingness to learn, and exposure to diverse experiences are key elements in fostering the adaptability needed for evolving perspectives. The process of changing views is nuanced and influenced by a combination of internal and external factors.
