    STATEMENTS

    1. A multicultural education curriculum should be in place in every school. Agree, our society, and culture as a whole are becoming more and more of a multi-culture population.

    2. Families should not be expected to be involved in classroom activities. Strongly disagree, families are key when it comes to the development of children. It would be wise to have families more engaged in classroom activities to help children, families, and classrooms to feel more connected.

    3. All learning programs should accommodate all children with special needs. Agree, though I agree that children with special needs should be accommodated for, I believe that there are very healthy ways to do it, such as having different classrooms that help a child grow and develop, rather than having to slow down classroom activities for all students, since all children learn and grow at their own pace. Some children learn faster than others, while some are a bit slower. Which is totally awesome! Being able to support children’s learning development and accommodate their needs is crucial for their growth.

    4. Some extended family members may confuse children, so they should not have a voice in raising or educating the child. Disagree, as it has been brought up in other posts, it’s not really our call. Suggestions are valid, and sometimes should be made depending on the situation, though it depends on the culture of the children and their family.

    5. My curriculum should be based on each individual child’s current interests. Disagree, it would be very hard to accomplish this. Teaching is a part of learning and developing skills, even if they aren’t of interest to everyone. There are ways to incorporate children’s interest into the curriculum, though, it should not be individualized.

    6. Diversity definitely includes race and culture, but doesn’t include age, ability or family make-up. Strongly disagree, diversity is in every culture, and it is everything that affects a child.

    7. Media in general delivers fair and accurate accounts of events around the country. Strongly disagree, not all media is fair nor accurate. There are a lot of opinions out there, which influences the ways media is streamed into events around the country. Not all the information in the media is the same.

    8. The United States should discontinue relations with countries that engage in human rights violations. Not sure how to answer this. The United States is a melting pot of culture, not all two cultures are exactly the same.

Point of view: All aspects of culture are highly important to the development and growth of children. We may disagree or agree on different ideologies, however, it is not our place to judge one another for their decisions.

    strongly agree:

    1. yes Multicultural education is essential.

    3. yes all students should be accommodated towards their needs.

    Agree:

    8. they should discontinue, but then all the little support that community gets becomes taken away lowering their chances at a better life.

    Disagree:

    2. while parents shouldnt be required, parent involvment is essential to kids growth.

    4. This is hard because sometimes extended families are more attentive than actual parents.

    5. my curriculum should be diverse and properly explain someones culture.

    Strongly Disagree:

    6. age, ability, and family are categories that make up diversity.

    7. The media only shows what is they want the audience to know.

    POINT OF VIEW:

values, beliefs, family, life experiences, desires, capabilities.

When people have opposing views, people being to get heated and will often turn into arguing to prove their point. However, people who choose to agree to disagree are aware that people come from different backgrounds there fore different beliefs. An immigrant might be more liberal, while people from the east might be more republican. Some people can change their views, depending on if they are really willing to accept others experiences rather than diminish them.

Welcoming a child who has recently immigrated into my class community would involve creating a supportive and inclusive environment where the child feels valued and respected. Here’s how I might approach it:

    1. Warm Welcome: Greet the child and their family with enthusiasm and warmth, showing genuine interest in getting to know them.
    2. Cultural Celebration: Acknowledge and celebrate the unique cultural background of the child and their family. This could involve incorporating elements of their culture into classroom activities, such as sharing stories, songs, or traditional foods.
    3. Buddy System: Pair the new child with a buddy from the class who can help them navigate the classroom routines, make friends, and feel more comfortable in their new environment.
    4. Language Support: Offer language support as needed, whether through bilingual materials, visual aids, or peer support from children who speak the same language.
    5. Family Engagement: Encourage the child’s family to participate in classroom activities, events, and parent-teacher conferences to foster a sense of belonging and connection with the class community.
    6. Peer Introductions: Facilitate opportunities for the new child to interact with their peers, such as through group activities, games, or collaborative projects. Encourage the other children to ask questions and show curiosity about the new child’s background and experiences.

In terms of celebrating the unique characteristics of the imaginary child and their family, I would start by creating a drawing of the family. In this drawing, I would depict the family members with diverse features and clothing representing their Middle Eastern background. I might also include symbols or items that are significant to their culture, such as traditional clothing, foods, or landmarks from their home country.

As a professional, I could celebrate the unique characteristics of the imaginary child and their family by:

    1. Incorporating cultural elements into classroom activities and discussions to promote cultural awareness and appreciation among the children.
    2. Encouraging the child and their family to share stories, traditions, and experiences with the class, fostering a sense of pride and belonging.
    3. Providing resources and support to help the child and their family navigate the transition to a new country and school environment.
    4. Creating an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere where diversity is celebrated and respected by all members of the class community.

On the community forum, I would share my discoveries about the diversity of family structures and brainstorm ideas for welcoming all families and enriching programs through intentional inclusive practices. This could involve discussing strategies for supporting immigrant families, accommodating diverse family compositions, and promoting cultural understanding and acceptance among children. By collaborating with other professionals and sharing insights and best practices, we can create more inclusive and supportive learning environments for all children and families.

I think a lot of people resort to arguments when they’re stubborn in their points of view, and when they differ from others, but on the other hand I think there are those who are easily swayed by arguments, and have no problems changing their perspectives.

Draw a picture of your imaginary child’s family, including the same demographics as above. Identify ways you as a professional could celebrate the unique characteristics of your imaginary child and his/her family.
