I love to incorporate dance breaks into our routine where we just turn up the music and dance around, i think also just creating a space where kids feel safe to be themselves. Providing different types of activities so kids can feel empowered to choose

We have our circle time songs both in the morning and evening where children get to move their bodies individually and in groups and we also have fun games like simon says where we make them do move and bend their bodies. And also we have physical development in our lesson plans where we plan activities which are physically active , engaging and fun for the kids.

Creating a developmentally appropriate, fun, and physically active classroom for children involves several key considerations. First and foremost, it’s essential to provide a variety of age-appropriate toys and materials that encourage active play and exploration. This could include things like balls, riding toys, climbing structures, and open-ended materials for creative play. Setting up different play areas within the classroom, such as a cozy reading nook, a gross motor play area, and a quiet corner for reflection, can help cater to various developmental needs and interests. Additionally, incorporating music and movement activities, outdoor playtime, and sensory experiences like sand and water play can add excitement and physical activity to the daily routine. Finally, as an educator, it’s crucial to model and encourage active play, participate in activities alongside the children, and adapt activities to accommodate different skill levels and abilities, ensuring that every child can enjoy and benefit from an engaging and active learning environment.

I mentioned this in another thread, but beanbag games are a great indoor physical activity. A part of it also includes teaching kids about the differences between playing outside vs inside. Inside, we do gentle tosses so that we don’t cause things to break on accident, outside we can do big throws. Inside we use our speaking voices to be gentle on our ears and outside we can yell because the sound can go far. I love doing beanbag tosses, balancing a beanbag on your head or other body parts, and passing games set to music or chants.

I suggest playing active games with imagination with children. For example, we will now walk like hedgehogs or run like bunnies. Who can show how frogs move?

Sing/create songs with the children, have dance time that allows the kids to get up run around and move their bodies, as well as taking time to work and play with each child or making more group games where everyone can learn together.

Using fun activities like icebreakers, playing a game with your classmates, responding to a fun message, sharing a meaningful article related to the course, or creating something like drawings, songs, etc. The icebreakers helps students get to know each other and teachers get to know the needs of children and families.

Limit time where TV is on as this will encourage children to sit still and watch. Incorporate regular activity time so children know to expect it and look forward to it.
