Do you have any tips for creating a developmentally appropriate, fun, and physically active classroom?

In creating a fun and active developmentally appropriate classroom, fun and physically active activities can include dancing, yoga, follow-the-leader, moving body and doing silly movements while naming body parts (arms, legs, hands, feet, toes, fingers, hips, etc.). Other activities that require physical activity inside the classroom that are safe are moving or running in one place, jumping jacks and jills, pretend push-ups, “lifting our weight” with objects that are safe and understanding muscles in return, and safety while moving our weight.

I like music and body movement. According to the theme I like to pick fun books, select a song with movement, and play some easy games. Sign language, a few magic tricks can also get kids engaged in learning.

Use music to dance, stretch, yoga, jumping and marching. When outside, adults must play too. Help them to climb and slide. Run with them. Wheeled play toys to push, ride and pedal.

Some tips might include having an organized classroom with an array of things to do. Puzzles, coloring, blocks and also active songs if the weather is bad out. Also, participating with the kids is important too.

Don’t make the space too big for zoom areas. know the children and know what they’re capable of, don’t force a child to something that they can’t do or want to do. offer substations and solution to children.

As a childrens dance teacher the best way to help the kids have fun and get exercise is to pretend to go to the zoo. Every time we see a new animal we have to dance as if we were the animal. Also creating obstacle courses is super fun for kids.

Keep your stations up-dated and engaging so the children will want to explore each one. Vary the length of to leach one too. You play music to let the children know a movement break is coming up. Music and movement will help the children feel energized and less stressed. Encourage stretching too, Play games in the classroom such as Treasure Hunt and I See, so the children will need to move about to find the object.

In Montessori movement is a large part of the curriculum–walking 10 times back and fourth to get the 10 Red Rods or working on the patio to wash cloths and carrying water back and fourth in pitchers and buckets. We also do movement songs, games and yoga regularly.

Do different activities to get the kids engaged. Maybe one day do an activity that includes doing something with their hands and maybe another day do something that they can get their feet dirty or even do inclusion types of activities that include cultures from different children in the class room.

Incorporating age appropriate games and activities into exercise is a great way to ensure students are engaged in physical health. For example, Playing music and dancing as a form of exercise or playing sports-based games.

Using a stack of yoga cards where they make different shapes ( planes, tress, etc) and then they get to make their very own stories and they make the different shapes.
