Screen time in childcare

MemberAugust 14, 2023 at 5:39 pmI don’t think there should be screen time in child care centers, especially because they most likely get screen time at home. Plus this age it is so important to nurture social interactions and develop essential skills that will help them go through elementary school. Screen time can take away from that.

Screen time should be limited for the kids maybe to an hour we need to ensure they are growing up to adjust to the world where we do need them to have screen time but at the same time they do not get addicted to it. We need to help them grow into successful and happy individuals.

I don’t think screen time is necessary for young kids, you can use different resources like music, for older kids maybe they could have some exposure to screen but for very limited time and definitely if use should be educational.

MemberAugust 18, 2023 at 10:19 pmScreen time is difficult to handle. Screen time overall is negative to a child’s learning and developmental skills, but is enjoyable for the child or student. You can use screen time as a rewarding system for good or exceptional behavior, but should still be limited.

MemberAugust 20, 2023 at 10:58 pmI think that for the infants they should put on rhymes and music quietly. And for toddlers, preschoolers and school-agers they should be allowed 1 hour of screen time but should be watching educational videos.

Screen time can be effective when done with heavy moderation and active engagement from a supervisor, such as watching and engaging with an educational program alongside the child. Using screen time as an idle way to constantly keep the child occupied, however, can impede development and skills such as attention, language, social skills, and patience.

My thoughts on screen time for children is that it can work well if not done in excess. It is important to give students breaks from screen time as they should also have the opportunity to work without it. There are many educational opportunities that are available thanks to technology nowadays that can make screen time a great tool for the classroom if done in moderation.

I don’t believe that screen time should be an option in the childcare setting. It doesn’t make sense to have it, unless for an educational purpose, like learning animal behavior, or dance along videos that promote action.
