</div><div>I don’t feel screen time is appropriate in Childcare especially excessive screen time with this being said I do think screen time can be used as a learning, tool or resource. There’s lots of great resources, such as brain breaks, or phonics videos that can help older children engage with the learning</div> -

MemberOctober 11, 2023 at 11:40 pmI have a very strong opinion on this, screentime must be minimal, watching a group movie is fine but only on Fridays. That is movie day, playing with devices only up to 30 min a day. In my opinion extensive screentime can cause a child to be electronically overloaded. Being stimulated by the screen for longer than 30 min regularly can cause focusing problems in the future.

I don’t think screen time is necessary for childcare. Our children have enough screen time in public schooling and at home as it is. Maybe an occasional movie day once a month or something, but that’s it.

MemberOctober 19, 2023 at 7:52 pmI believe that screen time is quite harmful for not only children but also for adults. (It certainly seems as though my attention, concentration, impulsivity, imagination, planning, language and social skills have diminished over recent years as my screen usage increased.) As such, I agree with the recommendation to avoid screens in the first two years of development and to severely limit screen time thereafter. I’m deeply concerned by the reliance on YouTube videos, in particular, to “teach” children new concepts within a classroom setting (something I witnessed daily in a previous role in an elementary school).

MemberOctober 26, 2023 at 1:39 amI think children under the age of ten including toddlers should be limited to screen time as their brain is still in the most critical phases of development. Personally, my siblings and I never got much screen time growing up until we were close to our teens. our first phone was not even a smartphone, first tablet we were only allowed to use for 20 mins each day to play games on it, the rest of our day was spent playing outside or doing other stuff that didn’t involve being on a mobile device.

Personally, I feel that young kids should not have regular access to screentime as we can see it has adverse effects on their development which could be damaging. I think that if a parent wants to allow their child to have screentime at home under their supervision that is fine, but in a childcare setting children should not have access to screen time.

MemberOctober 28, 2023 at 11:01 pmI have personal seen this from my kids with tv and screen time. When they are on it over an hour, I can tell they have been on it too long. They become aggressive and lazy. I have taken away my daughters tablet due to her being mean and not herself. I see such an improvement in her behavior.

MemberOctober 29, 2023 at 3:12 pmI think that you should limit screen time and do more active actives in and outdoors in a class setting. its jus healthier and you will see less behavior issue if you limit screen time in class.

I agree that screen time should not be utilized at childcare programs. Children learn best by playing and interacting with their peers and caregiver.

MemberNovember 4, 2023 at 12:10 amAs a childcare provider, there are so many other activities we could do with children rather than sit them in front of a screen. Such as open play, recess, circle time, art, reading, imaginative play. Unless it is a special occasion like a themed day (ex. pajama day) where they can bring in a stuffy and sit and watch a movie as a class. I don’t think there is any reason to have screens for children in the classroom.

MemberNovember 4, 2023 at 12:15 amI do not think that screen time is necessary or good for children at childcare. Children and babies need all the time they can get to socialize, play, and learn with the childcare giver and others their age. As studies have shown, children do not learn from videos, rather by people and environmental experiences.
