I personally believe that screentime is unnecessary for younger children. I think for educational purposes, it is ok for kindergarteners and older. But with young children I feel it’s best to limit the screens as much as possible to create a routine of no (fun) screentime, to prepare them for the rest of their schooling years, and their respective work field in the future.

My thoughts on screen time for children is that less or none is usually best. There’s numerous studies indicating the negative impacts that screen time can have on developing children. The only situation where this does not apply is for highly impacted students with exceptional needs. Screens CAN be used to positively – communication through AAC, PECs boards/ screens, etc. Screens used as communication devices are helpful to students who need it.

I personally think that children under 2 should have no access to TVs because even the American association of pediatricians back this. This is because it raises the chance of bully behavior and the chance of having an attentional disorder.

The option for screentime should not be catered to at most early learning centers unless needed. A reliance can be easily formed and it negatively impacts development at a crucial stage of a child’s life.

I believe children up to the age of at least 5 have no reason for screentime during class. Any learning activity children aged up to 5 could do on a screen they could do without. I think as kids get older learning activities on the computer can be beneficial. They had us play math and writing/ reading games on the computer when I was in 3rd grade and up which made for very engaging learning sessions, so I think that counts for something. Not to mention shows like Bill Nye or Magic School Bus which were also very fun and engaging learning opportunities. However, I don’t think children should rely on digital stimulation to engage in learning. I generally think young children should spend as little time on electronics as possible. Older kids using electronics in class for learning reasons is fine in moderation.

My thoughts on screen time in childcare is that there should be none I believe that verbal directions, visual cues that are not electronic, talking to others or simply a physical directions like paper or book is better but if screen time is necessary it should be monitored by a teacher and limited.

Screen time for children in childcare should be carefully managed. While high-quality educational content can support learning, excessive screen time can lead to reduced physical activity, limited social interactions, sleep disruption, and attention issues. It is important to follow guidelines that recommend limited screen time and choose age-appropriate, interactive content. Balancing screen use with physical play, creative activities, and social interactions is crucial. Active participation and supervision during screen time can enhance its benefits and ensure a healthy, well-rounded developmental environment for children.

I think screen time should be limited given they have an ‘adverse effect on early brain development’ however I do think it can be used in fun and educational ways.

I think screen time is okay for little kids as long as you monitor what sites they use.

I think that some screentime is okay to have for kids once they get a little older as long as it is monitored what they use and its mostly educational. At really young ages I think that it should be replaced with other activities like going outside or reading books.

I agree that under age 2 there should be no screen time and very limited to 1 to 2 hours after the age of 2. I have seen what it has done to my nieces and nephews.

My thoughts on screen time for children in childcare is that they should save that time for home. While they are at school, they should be playing with peers, using their imagination, and exploring. Relying on screentime at school will take away these growth opportunities for children.

I feel in school screen time can be useful if educational but not necessary and preferably just music should be played for the kids but that it is distracting and not necessary as there are many learning techniques proven to work without it
