Screen time in childcare

MemberAugust 4, 2024 at 9:49 pmIn this generation, I think that screen time is unavoidable. Even if screen time is not provided at childcare facilities, they could be exposed to it at home, so why not introduce children to fun and educational screen time.

MemberAugust 5, 2024 at 3:35 pmAs a teacher, I believe that the time a child spends in front of a screen is very harmful to brain development. That is why the recommended amount of time a child should spend in front of a screen is 15 minutes, watching educational things that instruct them and do not overstimulated or stress them, like aggressive video games.

MemberAugust 8, 2024 at 7:42 pmI believe it is better not to have screen time for children in early learning centers. It is better for them to be able to interact with their caregivers.

i feel that when it comes to watching tv i feel that its good for kids to watch tv here in there but all the time maybe not because children should learn to go and hang out and have fun with other kids and socialize with other children

There are pros and cons of screen time but caregivers should be mindful about how many hours they allow children to spend time on screens. It’s important to balance out children’s interaction with their environment and the knowledge they gain from the media via a rational lens.

MemberAugust 10, 2024 at 4:43 pmI could not be more strongly opposed to screens in childcare. For me, it’s a never, no, not at all. I disagree with how many screen hours school aged children are now required to participate in, in public school.
Under 5 s especially need a variety of feedback mechanisms from the real world. They miss it, if they are on screens.

I agree with childcare not providing any screen time for children that way children use their social and motor skills interacting with other children.

Screens are rotting everyone’s brains (not just children) and making our society as a whole less adaptable, less sympathetic, and more prone to boredom. I have seen many children who are just plopped in front of a tablet and those children are almost always testing below their peers that have no or limited screen time. I-pad parents are harming their children and bringing down society. If spending quality time with your child is too challenging then maybe you should stop having children.

MemberAugust 12, 2024 at 10:15 pmScreen time can support learning for older children but I think younger children should be exposed to other types of learning, including interactions with peers and adults as well as playing with toys to work on motor skills. It is important to not have screen time during school.

MemberAugust 12, 2024 at 11:28 pmI think that screen time for children in child care is not appropriate. There are so many engaging moments that would be missed if screens were a big part of the children’s day.

MemberAugust 13, 2024 at 2:48 amI would say no screen time at all in a childcare setting, they will be getting enough of it at home even with families who have fairly strict rules about it. As they get older, I think you can use screen time wisely to bond with a child over shared interests, use that interest in other non-screen activities, and find programs and games that can help with creativity and problem solving.

MemberAugust 13, 2024 at 10:51 pmThe center I currently teach at does one movie per week during the summer program but does not incorporate screen time into school year activities. I think this is a great way to allow children a break from their studies in the summertime while keeping them focused during the year on their education. I love spreading it out like this!

Since it can be hard to communicate the day’s activities between daycare and home, screen time should be avoided at childcare facilities. That way there is not a risk of over-doing it.

MemberAugust 14, 2024 at 5:59 aml think screen time at childcare is not necessary, but if it is used, it should be limited and used as an educational resource, not as a reward or free time activity. Children can learn eagerly through the video if not over used. The other option is using active videos that lead children through yoga or dances so they are interacting with each other and the video content. Otherwise, screens should be left for parents to monitor at home and school is a place to interact with peers.
