Screen time in childcare

MemberAugust 15, 2024 at 1:22 amTime screens in daycare could be only for educational and physical activity purposes. When children are learning new skills and practice them. Otherwise, screen time must not be allowed. At a very young age kids need to develop physical, motor, social, verbal, and cognitive skills. They are in charge of doing it for their good. Screen time will have a bad impact on their brain development.

Screen time is a divisive issue within education and raising children. Different rules within schools outside of the home can be aggravating to children. As adults, we must demonstrate restrictive screen time ourselves, which can be difficult for us! Evidence is clear that excessive screen time is harmful for children’s development, but in a world that is immersed in technology, we must find balance in introducing children to healthy relationships with technology and screens.

screen time should consist of educational content but also be limited. drawbacks, it can over stimulate a child and interfere with sleep patterns.

Under 2 years old should be none. Older children no more than 1-2 hours. In a day care or kindergarten is a social area, tons of activity and games. So I don’t think kids need so much screen because they will have quality time with friends and teachers and they will just have fun and learn so many new things.

MemberAugust 21, 2024 at 2:28 amI believe the only appropriate use of screen time in childcare with young children is to show or help better explain a topic in a short video. For example, to help explain some of the holidays we would show a short Sesame Street clip and then talk about what we saw and heard in the video. Other than that I believe music and books are most beneficial.

However, once a school year I would have a movie PJ day and truth is kids are always more excited to wear their pjs and have popcorn than sit through a movie. I would not rule it out in daycares where some kids are there from early morning to end of day but it has no place in the daily care giving.

It saddens me to see so many children walking around with their own tablets. They do not learn by playing with electronics all day. Their social skills suffer as well. 1 to 2 hours I think is okay but if anything longer they are missing out the true meaning of life is.

i feel like have screen time is good for learning new thing but their should be limit to it

Interactive, non-screen-based activities are more beneficial for development. When screen are used, they should be educational content, and incorporated in ways that do not replace face-to-face interactions, physical activity, and play.

instead of screentime there are better ways to getting a child’s attention and making those connections with them

I do not think screen time for children is a positive thing overall, I have seen some teachers do brain breaks or active activities for their children or using their laptop or screens to show kids educational songs/dances and I think that is a positive way to use screens in the classroom as it adds a fun aspect to educational things or a fun aspect to calming their bodies after a long day of learning other than those specific instances I don’t think screens are a positive thing for children in childcare settings. I think children that have unlimited access to screen time have limited imaginations to what they see on tv or in the video games and they have problems focusing on anything other then the screen, I see it as more of an addiction for kids rather than something positive.

I think there is a time and place for screentime and childcare is not it, maybe try books or music instead.
