I think screen time for older learners (4 1/2 5 years) can be beneficial for ESL learners.

Though I do agree that for bilingual learners it is best to have them interact with no screen time at a center. I think the child learns more off first hand examples from their peers. When they here the serve and return customs spoken this will help the child with cogitation and help development of his personality.

I believe screen time should be used as home, not in a childcare situation. Instead, find books to match the child’s interests and encourage social-emotional development at school.

There are many different ways that screen time can be beneficial to children during lessons, It is important to make sure that the time spent with a “screen” is used for active engagement, not as a substitute for the teacher.

I think children get plenty of screen time at home, and a childcare center should be a place free of screens

I do think some screen time is important as it’s going to be a huge part of their future, but it’s important not to become dependent on it to the point it becomes an addiction. Studies have shown that many social media platforms purposely make their platforms as addictive as possible by doing things such as making notifications red. Red is known to be a triggering color and seeing it on your screen makes us feel a need to get rid of it by checking. Also, when pulling down on the screen to “refresh” the page, this action is done because it’s similar to pulling down on a lever in a casino. This makes electronics extremely addictive. What’s sad is, addictions are hard enough to deal with as an adult and we’re putting it in the hands of children like it’s no big deal. Clearly it does have adverse affects.

I like the use of screen time in my classroom as it gives me ideas, and time to plan for the next activity and it involves them in something I would not be able to teach in a classroom like showing real-world examples. The maximum screen time I agree with however is at most one hour.

Studies show that screen time for young children should be limited or none. I believe children should not use screens daily. Screen time is proven to have negative side effects, so why encourage that?

Screen time should only be used once in awhile but not frequently and for educational purposes only.

I do not see any reason for screen time to happen in childcare facilities. Our facility has lots of activities and materials available to engage kids

There are so many different ways that we can engage kids that does not involve screen time. It is a shame that screen time is used so frequently in some childcare settings.

I think that screen time should definitely be limited in a childcare program. I think it’s absolutely okay to have a movie once in a while as a rewards or for holidays. But it’s also okay to take into account the technology has a huge role in everyday life, more then it did 10 years ago. And maybe it’s time we start integrating it more.

I feel as though while they’re tiny and young they don’t need screen time . They could always benefit from tunes and things but watching TV just isn’t really that beneficial to them . The older they get though the more I feel they’d benefit from an occasional educational cartoon in small doses .

I do not think that screen time is necessary in the daily routine of childcare. By having lots of interaction with caregivers, toys, and nature children have all they need to develop appropriately.

I think that 95% of the time, there should not be screen time in childcare. The children get enough screen time at home. There are, however, instances in which screen time can be utilized as a tool for teaching. For example, watching the cameras that zoos put up in different exhibits. This can be used to observe animal behavior, as well as begin a new topic and investigation into wildlife, habitats, animal needs, etc. There are also times in which a very small, monitored amount of screen time (for example, a short Halloween special as part of a classroom Halloween celebration) can be incorporated for special events, with parental consent, and with teacher monitoring. However, as stated earlier, 95% of the time, there should be no screen time in childcare. This is the time in which children get to interact with same-age peers and learn about this wonderful world, we don’t need to occupy that time with screen time and commercials.

Screen time should be at a very limited use. Sometimes videos can help them learn if you interact with them while its running, using serve and return as your building block.

Younger children shouldn’t have access to constant screen time. For older children, appropriate boundaries should be enforced but focused on building rewards and fun outside of screens instead of limiting screens as punishment.
