I will tell parents about our teacher and student ratio, and school routine, and show them the classroom environment indoors and outdoors. I will then give them our handbook which states what is our policy when kids are sick.

I would first welcome the family with warm and courteous conversation. I would point out the playroom and the safety of all the toys and activities and explain how things are properly disinfected. I would also show them the doors and exits and gates and how things are kept secured. I would point out the bathroom and changing station and show them all the sanitation instructions. I would show them the kitchen and how food is prepared and properly stored. I would show them the play yard and how all equipment is in safe working order. I would invite them to ask as many questions as they can.

When touring families through my home facility, I make sure to highlight gates on the stairs, the playroom furniture all being at children’s level and consistent monitoring I provide.

If you were giving a prospective parent a tour through your program, what safety procedures would you highlight?

I would show the parent the safety areas first: the locking door on the front of the building, emergency contact list, emergency training, certified staff in trainings concerning emergencies, how we keep food safe and our policies concerning medications and allergies, how food/beverages/breastmilk is stored, the enclosed area of the facility (gated, doors, locking mechanisms of doors out of reach of children, etc.), bathroom safety, cleanliness, chemicals locked away/out of reach, and clear of foreign pesticides/animals (not included hammy, the classroom’s hamster enclosed pet).

When pointing out safety features, I would make sure to talk about hygiene procedures in our bathroom, sink, changing, and food serving areas. I would talk about nap time layout and overseeing, first aid kit and protocol, and walkie-talkie communication in the case of emergencies.

After warmly welcoming the prospective parent, I would highlight safety procedures such as the enclosed outdoor area, entrances and exits, emergency route designs, and medication intake and administration policies.

The first thing I would do is to make sure I am creating a welcoming environment for the parents. I would then start by showing them our classrooms and some of the activities at our center. Then I would show the or sanitizing stations and our kitchen and how we serve our food. I would also show them all our security features, and the I would show them our outside area and all the safety features we have to insure no child gets hurt.

I would welcome the family into the center and show them the outdoor areas too so they can see how the perimeters are kept safe with fences/secure gates. I would also show them the different toys and activities we do that are age appropriate so they know that the children won’t experience safety hazards while participating in play time. I will also take them through the routine of what we do after we come in from outside (washing hands) and additionally how we keep snack time safe. I will show them the procedures in place for fire/earthquake etc, and the security of the building.

While touring, I would show that everything has safety locks, Show exits, show that medications are locked up high and tight, and show them the first aid kit.
