this answer varies based on what age group the parent is most inquiring about as theyll be more decerning in that room. showing safety gates at crucial entry points, pointing out wall mounted shelving, showing things that are intentionally at a child accessible height and any locks you have on cabinets, can all be good things to point out in a tour.

I would share that we keep kids safe:

    1. Fire alarm with sprinklers, practice monthly fire drills

    2. To ensure children are safe from intruders we have a secured entrance into the childcare area, partner with the local school district, police, and housing authority to notify us when a concern is in our local community which triggers the lockdown procedures which are practiced with the kids quarterly.

    3. In full day classrooms the mats and sheet is assigned to each child for naps with the sheets washed and mats sanitized weekly.

    4. Playground safety- inspected daily and before each classes use, fall zones and impact materials, fenced area.

      Theresa,

Your safety procedures are thorough and thoughtful. It’s great to hear that you have a comprehensive plan in place to keep the children safe. The partnership with the local authorities and the practice of lockdown procedures show a proactive approach to ensuring the safety of the children. The attention to detail with regards to fire drills, secured entrances, and playground safety is commendable. It’s evident that you prioritize the well-being of the children in your care. Well done!

I would be sure to highlight the closing/locking mechanisms on all doors and cabinets, I would also show the first aid kit and other classroom safety supplies, and I would highlight the abundance of staff to keep watch over children.

I’d give a tour of indoor and outdoor spaces as needed (minimal children present) for the family’s familiarity. I’d highlight different sections/ areas within the space, high traffic areas/ popular areas, and note areas that could be calm/ quiet areas for their child if they need.

I’d begin the tour with a welcoming introduction, then give a tour of each of the classrooms. Through every class I’d share a different safety precaution and share how the process would work in a given situation. I would definitely go over stranger-danger safety (the main doors have codes), fire safety, secured medicinal cabinets, lock down drills and natural disasters. I would also show the parents a mini rundown of where each drill takes place and where to go if any of these safety hazards occur.

Kalieyah, it’s great that you mentioned age group divisions and barriers as a safety procedure to highlight during a program tour. It’s important for prospective parents to see how you ensure the safety and security of children by separating different age groups. Sanitation techniques and practices/rules are also crucial to mention, as they demonstrate your commitment to maintaining a clean and hygienic environment for the children. Good job in identifying these key safety procedures!

I would hope for a kind person greeting me and showing me around. Someone who seems to love what they do and truly care about the children’s well being. I would hope to see the center look clean and organized, of course not perfect, but showing signs that it is taken care of, precautions are made, and there is some order. I’d hope to see lots of color, artwork, books, a cozy/calming corner, space to play and create. I’d also be looking for first aids, emergency plans, how the center’s building is looking, safe and shows signs of good upkeep. I’d also want to know what kinds of food they give the children, as I would want them to eat only certain things. Most important, how I feel as I walk through, if I feel happy, excited, safe, calm, hopeful, and comfortable, then I know the center is a good possibility.

If I were giving a prospective parent a tour through the program I would make sure that during the tour I highlight our fire escape emergency plan, as well as our earthquake escape plan.

I would highlight the sanitization of everything and help establish peace of mind that everything that their child will interact with will be sterile and their health is a top priority.
