I would point out all of the ways we are in compliance, while highlighting some additional safety measures–all-staff walkie talkies, removal of trees/shrubs/ heightened fencing.

I would show them our disaster readiness and all the specific routes we take for different disasters or emergency. As a parent this would be very important to me. I would also show how the children are protected from harm coming into the building and what safety measures we have to prevent this.

I would start by welcoming the family, showing them the various activities in the classroom, take the time to explain safety precautions and procedures, then proceed to show them the outside area where the kids can play, the bathrooms, and the entrances/exits.

I would show them around each of our centers, show the playground, discuss our gate closures, soft fall mulch, avoidance of chemicals in play equipment. Inside, I would focus on illustrating our drop-off and pick-up procedures, fire safety and emergency preparedness plans.

I would show the parents the first-aid kits, the cleaning supplies, the organization of the room and how food is handled.

Dutmring a tour of the building, I would highlight the measures we’ve taken to make sure that the space is safe and secure. Pointing out locations of first aid supplies and emergency preparedness information and materials may also be reassuring.

I would welcome the family to the facility. Showing them the multiple fire exits and evacuation routes, our maintained safe facility outdoors and indoors. Fences, windows, doors, locks, outlets all in the safe working fashion for school. That the safe areas for children to play are with developmentally safe and appropriate toys, that all harmful substances (cleaning supplies, permanent markers, et al.) are out of reach.

Children have safe areas to walk through classes, no hazards to impede their ability to move around the classroom and access materials.

Showing the parent the entrance and exit, showing them the bathrooms, where medication is held if applicable, and I would also show them the outside door to get out in case of a fire/drill.

I would begin by welcoming the parents and showing them around, then I would highlight access points in case of safety, and show first aid areas and stations for children to play.

While showing them around the classroom I would point out the fire exit route, where the health kit is and other important need to know objects are.

If I were giving a tour of a program, I would highlight our emergency preparedness. I would discuss our program’s emergency procedures, including fire drills, lockdown drills, and evacuation plans. I would also show our outdoor play areas and discuss our safety measures such as age-appropriate equipment and fencing.

I would highlight our staff to child ratio and how it allows us to keep eyes on kids to ensure they are staying safe; our age-appropriate toys that don’t have pieces that younger kids could swallow; our nap mat procedures to keep kids’ mats clean; our hand washing procedures; and our snack table cleaning proceduresI would highlight our staff to child ratio and how it allows us to keep eyes on kids to ensure they are staying safe; our age-appropriate toys that don’t have pieces that younger kids could swallow; our nap mat procedures to keep kids’ mats clean; our hand washing procedures; and our snack table cleaning procedures

If I were giving a prospective parent a tour through the program, I would highlight the first aid kits in the classrooms, the emergency exits and plans, as well as the cleaning procedures. To make sure the parents know that this is a very prepared, safe, and clean environment for their children.

I would emphasize cleaning procedures (such as disinfecting toys) and what steps my center takes during transition periods. Such as going from the indoor area to the playground outside.
