The message that is conveyed by the WAV about diversity is to provide access to diverse learning opportunities to promote acceptance. Children and staff should be accepting of all cultures and religions in their facilities. It creates balance between families and promotes inclusion rather than accepting biases that can be offensive.

1. The WACs 110-300-0030, 110-300-0160, and 110-300-0300 all address inclusion and equity of care – that is, respecting different cultures and diversity.
2. The biggest message that these WACs convey is that there’s no cultural discrimination to be had when it comes to education, and steps should be taken in order to support diversity. Knowing a child’s background could be vital to understanding their behavior.

Ethical code of conduct and declaration of commitment.
Inclusion represents the values, policies and practices that support the right of every child and their family, regardless of their ability, to participate in a wide range of activities and contexts as full members of families, communities and society. The desired outcomes of inclusive experiences for children with and without special needs and their families is that they experience a sense of belonging and acceptance, positive social relationships and friendships, and appropriate development and learning to reach their full potential. Determinants of inclusion that can be used to identify high-quality early childhood programs and services are:
Access: provide access to a wide range of learning opportunities, activities, contexts and settings.
Participation: Even if environments and programs are designed for easy access, some children will need additional individualized accommodations and supports to fully participate in play and learning activities with peers and adults.
Support: A systems-level support infrastructure should be provided to those who provide inclusive services to children and their families

WAC 110-300-0160 States that we as providers must provide learning opportunities that are racially and culturally diverse. This includes curriculum, materials such as books, pictures, and music. None of these things should reinforce stereotypes or biases. In addition to this we providers are responsible for stopping inappropriate behavior, and conversations. The message here is that our classrooms should promote diversity and inclusion.

MemberJuly 23, 2023 at 4:35 amThe WACs convey the message that diversity is important. So much so, that they have guidelines requiring us to provide diverse learning materials and an inclusive environment for students to be in. Everyone’s values and ideas are important and valid. Everyone goes through life differently. It’s important to connect with others to celebrate those differences and to help each other in times of need, regardless of circumstance.
