Es importante saber que todo niño puede ser diferente, por su cultura, raza , genero, religión, idioma etc, Pero lo unico es que pueden tener en comun es que son Niños y que todo con amor y respeto se puede educar y cuidar,

I would make a project where a child can make a poster like “All About Me” for them to create their poster with their family, their likes, everything that makes them. I understand that with some children they might not know their background or be in a temporary home and it could be hard for them to share their situation. I would work with that child and make sure their “All about me” Poster would be a fun experience.

The WACs make it clear it is important to include diversity and culture into the classroom and curriculum in a respectful way and how to be welcoming to children and families of different cultures.

MemberJuly 28, 2023 at 9:09 pmThey convey that it is necessary to create a welcoming environment where diversity is represented and celebrated. Providers must maintain an environment where bias is addressed, stereotypes are not reinforced, and learning opportunities about other cultures are available and promoted.

1. WAC 110-300-0160 (promoting acceptance of diversity) addresses diversity and WAC 110-300-0085 (family partnerships and communications) addresses collaboration with families.
2. The big takeaway from these WACs that promote acceptance and establish healthy partnerships with families is that early care providers must be knowledgeable of cultural diversity and include diverse learning opportunities for their students. The curriculum, materials used, and equipment must promote diversity as well. This can be forms of diverse books showing big families, diverse songs including extended family, games, etc.

MemberAugust 2, 2023 at 4:47 pmWAC 110-300-0160 specifically mentions how teachers can promote acceptance of diversity. I would have books and posters that represent a diverse population. I would have pictures next to vocabulary words so students who are learning a new language can learn new words and concepts. I would have the schedule displayed in a way that children can understand and start to learn procedures and not be overwhelmed in my classroom.

They also say there should be diverse families enrolled, diverse music, and that you should intervene to stop biased behavior by both adults and children.

- What big messages do the WACs give regarding diversity and collaboration? An early learning provider must provide culturally and racially diverse learning opportunities. Diverse learning opportunities must be demonstrated by the provider’s curriculum, activities, and materials that represent all children, families, and staff. An early learning provider must communicate with families to identify individual children’s developmental goals. Attempt to obtain information from each child’s family about that child’s developmental, behavioral, health, linguistic, cultural, social, and other relevant information. The provider must make this attempt upon that child’s enrollment and annually thereafter. Determine how the program can best accommodate each child’s individual characteristics, strengths, and needs. The provider must utilize the information seek input from family members and staff familiar with a child’s behavior, developmental, and learning patterns.
