An early learning provider must gather information about the child and family to help understand any behavioral, cultural, developmental and learning patterns.

I, growing up learned early to translate to help my parents and when doing schoolwork and asking for help was a bit hard but the teacher, I had would take the time to give me a sheet of my work in the language my parents could understand so they would be involved in my work. So as a soon to be provider I learned from a young age to be welcoming to every culture.

Providers must incorporate diverse curriculum, activities, and materials to represent all the children and staff. They must not reinforce stereotypes or ignore biases. They must consider what is and is not appropriate for other cultures.

2. I think the message its trying to convey regarding diversity and collaboration is that every child should feel like they’re included and not left out, by providing diverse learning opportunities every child has the opportunity to feel welcomed and other children have the opportunity to learn and experience something they might have not before.

Which WACs address diversity and collaboration with families?
What big messages do the WACs give regarding diversity and collaboration?(1) An early learning provider must provide culturally and racially diverse learning opportunities. Diverse learning opportunities must be demonstrated by the provider’s curriculum, activities, and materials that represent all children, families, and staff. A provider must use equipment and materials that include, but are not limited to:
(a) Diverse dolls, books, pictures, games, or materials that do not reinforce stereotypes;
(b) Diverse music from many cultures in children’s primary languages; and
(c) A balance of different ethnic and cultural groups, ages, abilities, family styles, and genders.
2. What big messages do the WACs give regarding diversity and collaboration?
WACs talks about the diversity that has to be in a classroom. Children should be like at home when coming into any classroom. They should feel like they can fully express themselves. As teachers we should be able to implement this in the child learning whether its books that talk about their culture or food they eat at home.

MemberSeptember 6, 2023 at 5:36 amHow would I welcome a child into class, help to celebrate their unique differences and help other children welcome and get to know this child?
“I would have the child introduce themselves and share about their family, where they have come from, special foods they eat and even traditions they practice at home. I would make sure to include representative materials throughout the classroom and in the lesson plans and class activities. This includes books about the culture, picture books with characters that represent the student and their culture, talk about how different cultures are something to be celebrated and welcomed. Depending on age of students maybe talk about foods or music from that culture and bring a food from that culture and play music from that culture. Other children could welcome and get to know this child by including them in play and other activities as well as ask questions to have better understanding such as learning basic words in that language or even what it is like living in another part of the world.”

MemberSeptember 8, 2023 at 3:35 pmHow would I welcome a child into class, help to celebrate their unique differences and help other children welcome and get to know this child? I would encourage them to make a song that introduces their name so they know each others and make an activity that represents who they are and where they come from. I would encourage them to be proud of who they are and make them feel safe and comfortable as well. I also believe encouraging parents to be involved in activities like this can really help the child feel more welcomed and comfortable. We should explain that being different is actually a good thing that we should all embrace.
