MemberSeptember 12, 2023 at 4:25 pmI found many different WAC’s that mentioned family engagement and partnerships, some of those include 110-300-0080, 0085, 0065 and so forth. The WAC’s give a big message on how to collaborate with many types of families because our world is so diverse and we will have a diverse population of students in our care. I believe it really came down to all students should be treated the same and their differences should be celebrated in the classroom.

MemberSeptember 12, 2023 at 4:29 pmmy last reply got cut off before I could answer the second part of the question, but as I was saying, each child deserves to be represented in the classroom personally and the WAC that represents that is 110-300-0160 which falls under inclusivity and equity of care. It states that children should be provided with racially diverse materials in the classroom.

MemberSeptember 12, 2023 at 9:16 pmThe WACs convey messages regarding diversity and collaboration by emphasizing the importance of creating inclusive environments that respect and value the diverse backgrounds, cultures, and languages of children and families. They also promote collaboration among staff members, families, and community partners to support the holistic development and well-being of children. It’s important for early learning professionals to be familiar with the WACs and their guidelines to ensure they are meeting the standards of diversity and collaboration in their practice.

While reviewing the Washington Administrative Codes (WACs), I found that several WACs address diversity and collaboration with families, such as WAC 110-300-0245, which emphasizes cultural diversity and respectful communication with families. The big messages conveyed by these WACs regarding diversity and collaboration are the importance of recognizing and respecting cultural diversity, valuing individual family backgrounds, and engaging in open, respectful, and inclusive communication with families. These codes underscore the significance of creating an inclusive and welcoming environment that celebrates the uniqueness of each child and their family, fostering partnerships built on trust, collaboration, and cultural sensitivity to support the best interests of children in early learning programs.

WAC 100-3–0160 Speaks about culture and diversity. How I would add this to my classroom is through toys, posters, and items through different countries. Have the child come in, talk openly about there country, there family. If the child is bilingual have the child during a learning activity answer questions on their language to let the other child try to speak it as well.

If I was welcoming a child into my class that is new to this country I would have them bring one thing from homeand show the classmates what it is, show us how to use it or why the pattern is how it is ir why its stitched like this and how it was made then maybe bring food from their country and show us how they eat it as have us try some with the child

1. WACs 110-300-0160, 110-300-0320 addresses diversity and 110-300-0085 addresses collaboration with families.
2. The overall message is that when you include children’s culture into the lessons they are more likely to feel heard and welcome and want to participate.

A number of the Washington Administrative Codes (WACs), such as WAC 110-300-0245, which stresses cultural diversity and respectful communication with families, address diversity and collaboration with families. These WACs emphasize the significance of appreciating and honoring cultural variety, appreciating individual family histories, and participating in open, respectful, and inclusive communication with families in their main messages about diversity and collaboration. These codes emphasize the importance of fostering partnerships based on trust, collaboration, and cultural sensitivity to support the best interests of children in early learning programs, as well as the importance of creating an inclusive and welcoming environment that celebrates the individuality of each child and their family.

WAC 110-300-0160 outlines that early learning programs must be inclusive and provide diverse resources such as toys children play with, books, music and even the food provided to children.

MemberSeptember 15, 2023 at 5:31 am- Which WACs address diversity and collaboration with families? WAC 110-300-0160 addresses diversity and WAC 110-300–0085 addresses collaboration with families.
- What big messages do the WACs give regarding diversity and collaboration? The big messages WAC gives are they want to let the parents know that it’s a diverse, safe space for their children, and don’t want them to feel left out. Also the early learning provider and parent should collaborate to get to know the child’s developmental, behavioral, health, linguistic, cultural, social, and other relevant information in order for the child to reach the potential self.

WAC 110-300-0160 states that early childcare providers must provide learning opportunities that are culturally/ racially diverse in their curriculums, activities, and materials. I would make sure to have diverse books, images, dolls, music, and types of toys that reflect—cultural representations. Also, our students bring a range of cultural food during our lunch and snacks. Appreciating the diversity of food (don’t yuck my yum) early helps students recognize that taste is also cultural and notice similar but different types of food and the ways it is utilized across cultures (rice, tomatoes, squash)

MemberSeptember 17, 2023 at 5:27 amWAC 110-300-0080 Family support self-assessment.
An early learning provider must assess their program within one year of being licensed, or within six months of the date this section becomes effective, to identify ways to support the families of enrolled children. A provider must complete the strengthening families program self-assessment, or an equivalent assessment, applicable to the early learning program type (center or family home).

We need to provide opportunity to explore culturally diversity in our classroom activities. We should model acceptance and embracing differences.
