Q.1 The WAC that addresses Diversity is 110-300-0160. It states an early learning provider must provide culturally and racially diverse learning opportunities. Diverse Learning opportunities must be demonstrated by the provider’s curriculum, activities, and materials that represent all children, families and staff.
The WAC that addresses Collaboration with families is WAC 110-300-0085
(2) An early learning provider must attempt to obtain information from each child’s family about the child’s development, behavior, health, linguistic, cultural and social and any other relevant information.
(3d) Give families opportunities to share their language and culture in the early learning program.

It is important to create a nurturing environment the includes everybody and where our differences are celebrated. It is important to collaborate with parents to better understand how to meet the needs of the child as well.

WAC 110-300-0085 is for family partnerships and communication, and WAC 110-300-0160 is for promoting acceptance of diversity.
It is important for the educator to talk to the families of the children about their child’s strengths in development, their health issues, various needs, and getting to know the family routines and the way the culture of the family.
It is also important for the educator to provide culturally and racially diverse learning opportunities through the curriculum, activities, and materials that represent all children, families, and staff. A provider must use equipment and materials that include diverse dolls, books, pictures, games, or materials that do not reinforce stereotypes.

It is important that early learning providers collaborate with families by informing them about what is necessary for the growth and development of the children.
WAC 170-295-2040 states that an early learning provider must guide the child’s behavior based on understanding his or her needs and stages of development. Understanding a child’s and family’s culture will help early learning professionals to guide and understand the child’s behavior.

WAC 110-300-0160 states that providers curriculum should have opportunity for diversity. It is discouraged to have items or ideas that at biased. Children should have diversity in music, play, pictures, books, cultures and ethnic groups.

This means that as childcare providers we must include things around the classroom that don’t reinforce stereotypes such as the music, toys, learning material, etc.
