WAC 110-300-0010 is required for everyone who provides care. Something new I learned is that people who provide care from their home is still required to be licensed. I think it is important to have the WACs in the back of your mind when providing care.

I was very pleasantly surprised how clear and all-encompassing the WAC is. I was also surprised at the level of training required, as I had worked in a childcare center when I was first out of high school (decades ago) and the center would have greatly benefitted from additional requirements. As mentioned by a previous poster, I was also happy to see the diversity component included too. Since the WAC is covers the entirety of the center’s functions, it will definitely drive the day-to-day. It is a great framework to work in as the bar is set at such a high standard.

The WACs are all very sensible, and it’s interesting to see how all of the details are accounted for and what types of things are given importance (family members, number of hours that constitute the need for licensing, etc).

I thought the WACs were very informative to read about, although I had to find some of them on the app.gov.wa.gov website, which I hope is ok. Also, just so you know, the course material called “Foundational Quality Standards…” won’t open- it says that it can’t be found. I found it interesting that in WAC 110-300-0100 staff (maybe specifically lead teachers and center directors) are supposed to know about community resources for parents and families. I also liked how in that WAC it details the qualifications and job descriptions for the various roles within an early learning environment. Overall, these WACs gave a nice overview of center management requirements, as well as specifics related to teacher education and health and safety requirements.

I don’t personally find this WAC surprising, as these rules ensure the safety and care for all children that are served in centers like mine. I know I will use this WAC to continue to navigate and ensure I care for each child and families the best I can.

I think this is a comprehensive list of regulations that outlines who is required to be licenced. I agree with other students that it is good to see diversity utilized here as many families have different needs for childcare/education environments.
