I discovered that anyone doing childcare, whether at home or in a facility, needs to be licensed. I was surprised by that but it makes sense. Overall, I can definitely see the WACs playing a supporting role in my day to day activities as an early learning professional.

I discovered that WACs provide a comprehensive guide for Early Childhood Education. I can’t say that I was particularly surprised by any of the WACs as they seem to be fairly straightforward and detailed on what they cover. I definitely see the WACs playing a big role in my day-to-day practice of caring for children, because of the important guidelines that the WACs put in place about being licensed and all of the minutia that comes with caring for children.

I discovered how different the rules for childcare can be from state to state. No, I was not surprised by any of the WACS because they all correlate with childcare and the overall benefit and safety of children. Yes I can see how it could influence my day to do. It covers everything from administering medicine, to how to engage and communicate with family, to safe sleep practices and proper nutrition amongst other things.

While doing the WAC activity, I discovered that the rules are very detailed and cover l every part of child care, from licensing to safety and staff training. I was surprised by how specific some of them are, but it showed me how much they focus on protecting children and supporting quality programs. I can see the WACs will influence my day-to-day work because they guide how I set up safe spaces, interact with families, and support children’s development.

I discovered that the WACs cover all of the basis of a licensed childcare facility. The WACs cover the child, the family, staff and community. If any questions arise, you can easily look up the WACs and find the answer to any question. I was not surprised by the WAC, however, I was pleasantly surprised on how many there are and how detailed they get. Like I previously stated it is a great resource to look at if one has any questions. I can see how to WACs influence your day-to-day practice by specifically telling you how to do something or how to properly do something in the childcare facility. Everyone will be following the WAC so ideally tasks and care will be done similarly by different staff members.

I found that the WACs cover a lot of details about safety, health, and learning environments. I wasn’t too surprised, but some of the rules were more specific than I expected. I can see how they’ll guide my daily work since they make sure kids are safe, cared for, and supported in their learning.

What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? Nothing new. I’ve worked approximately 8 years in early childhood education already at this point in my life. I can’t necessarily pair the number with the requirements sight unseen, but I know what they are from working in previous centers. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? No. See above for why I wasn’t surprised. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? Yes. Why – I’ve already seen it as an employee working in a number of early childhood education centers.

What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? WAC covers a wide range of important areas—from staff qualifications and child-to-staff ratios to health, safety, and operational procedures—highlighting the state’s commitment to maintaining high-quality care and consistent standards across all licensed programs. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? Yes, I was surprised by how detailed some of the rules are—like the careful health and safety steps and the importance of ongoing learning for staff. It’s clear that the state really wants to make sure kids are safe and cared for, and the rules are very clear so there’s no confusion. I didn’t fully understand this before. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? The WACs helped me know exactly what to do every day to keep children safe, clean, supervised, and supported as they grow. Understanding these rules makes me more careful and confident in giving good care, making sure kids get what they need and keeping both me and the program safe from problems.

While reviewing WAC Chapter 110-300, I discovered how detailed and specific the regulations are in covering all areas of child care, from health and safety to learning environments and family communication. I was a little surprised by how specific some requirements are, such as the details on playground surfaces and rest equipment, but I can see why they are important for children’s safety. The WACs will definitely influence my daily practice because they guide how I set up the environment, manage routines, and ensure I’m meeting all safety and health standards. They serve as a clear framework for providing high-quality care and help me stay consistent and accountable.

I discovered that an individual needs to be licensed to provide childcare and early education services in their family’s home if the child is “not a relative”. And I did not know that caring for children under 12 for more than 4 hours per day also requires a license. The WAC requirements do not surprise me as they are necessary standards to protect the safety of children. The WAC will impact my daily childcare activities to create a professional educational environment and ensure proper child safety regulations.
