What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? – I discovered that WACs provides so much information about what you need to know for the requirements of being a licensed early learning professional, and the rules that apply to your daily work from WACs.Were you surprised by any of the WACs? – I didn’t find myself surprised to any of the WACs, because many of the rules that are a part of the WACs includes information that is self-explanatory where there should be common sense into knowing what to do and how to do it in the early learning program. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? – Yes, I can see how the WACs will influence my day-to-day practices in caring for children because it will influence daily practice by requiring providers to follow specific health and safety standards, such as handwashing after toileting and before eating to prevent germs from spreading. Providing that safe space for children to play, and being the provider to protect children from injuries and making sure all children are counted for as we do name to face in our daily work with children. It is important that the safety and health for children in our care is taking care of, so that us as professionals are meeting expectations as an early learning provider/professional.

    1. I learned that due to outdated rules, that a huge focus was put into updating the WACs and not just in a way that would benefit only one type of child, but all children and there’s a great effort into making sure our children are safe within the walls of whatever establishment they may be in at any given time. It makes me feel reassured, only slightly, that there are more people out there that give a lot of care and focus to the safety and continued education of our children.2. No, not surprised. But happy that everything I read, made sense and nothing was outlandish or in the case of not following the WACs, there was no punishment that came across as too harsh.3. I absolutely do see how the WACs will influence my every day-to-day interactions with them forever going forward. It’s not just a wimpy list of WACs that someone will only ever reference once and then do whatever it is they feel is right in the moment. So much thought and consideration when into these, that’s it’s so incredibly important to uphold these and to uphold those around us in similar positions to ensure that we are helping our next generation of children grow up to be the best versions of themselves.

What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? Were you surprised by any of the WACs? Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? I learned that the WACs provide clear rules for staff responsibilities, safety, training, and program standards. I was surprised by how specific some requirements are, like staff-to-child ratios and documentation. The WACs will guide my daily work by helping me maintain a safe, structured, and professional environment for children.

I have only worked with children in Oregon and therefore did not know a lot about Washington State standards but am not surprised to see that many of them are very similar to each other.

I discovered the licensing requirements and codes. I am not surprised by the standards for a licensed childcare, I am glad they are in great detail with many restrictions and requirements. These WACs will help all childcare professionals understand and practice proper standards as a childcare provider.

While completing the activity, I was able to see what requirements were needed for an in-home daycare, which was nice, so that when I have mine, I can start to see what requirements are needed beforehand, so it’s not all thrown at me. I wasn’t surprised by the WAC’s I felt like all of them were self-explanatory since I worked on the admin side of a childcare facility. All of the WACs I felt like are what’s best to keep the children safe.

After reading chapter 110-300 of the WAC, I realized that these rules cover many areas of child care and early learning programs, like safety, health, the environment, and staff requirements. I was surprised to see how specific some of the rules are, especially the ones about cleaning and safety. I can definitely see how the WAC affects my daily work because they help us keep a safe and organized place for the children, and they also guide me to do my job better every day.
