The rules and regulations regarding early learning in Washington that are described in WAC Chapter 110-300 are so thorough that they support everything from staff training and child ratios to curriculum and safety. I was caught off guard by how very specific some rules are—for instance, a written curriculum philosophy and the requirement that the space must be big enough for children to move around without interruption. The WACs will have a great impact on my daily routine. They determine my interaction with kids, the number of kids I can look after, how I organize the activities, and how I cooperate with the regulations to make the kids safe and learning.

I didn’t really find anything interesting about the WACs that I found not comprehensive because I understood the importance of why the codes were created. I was not surprised by the WAC rule, it describes clear plans on how childcares should be preforming to bring in families. it did not surprise me on how often the requirements need to be updated. Things are always changing so it is no surprise that that means new training to make sure we are staying current with the rules of WACs. 1. I discovered the WACs are extremely detailed and a bit forbidding to read through quickly. It would take a lot of time to be deeply familiar with them.2. None of the WACs really surprised me. It was interesting to see the legal definitions of lead teacher, assistant teacher, aide, volunteer, etc.3. It seems like the WACs would most influence day-to-day practice in a school regarding compliance for who is present in the room with children at a given time and who must supervise those staff. In my experience, this can sometimes get complicated.
