if i suspected abuse or neglect of a child i would document my concerns in detail and present them to my supervisor for immediate action. I think it if it is pressing then it is safer than sorry to make a report to CPS.

MemberNovember 26, 2023 at 12:48 amI would first sit down with the child to ask some non probing question about quality of life as home and any reasons for bruises. i would then come to my direction to inform them of believed abuse and my plans to call cps, then i would call cps and inform the agent of the suspected child abuse.

MemberDecember 2, 2023 at 3:14 amI would call CPS right away. I would rather call CPS and disrupt a family relationship than a child being harmed. It is frustrating when you know that a child is being harmed and CPS not making changes, and I do know that most parents do love their children. Some parents love their children, but do not have parenting skills. Hopefully, by calling CPS, parents can get more support and get parenting skills.

If I suspect child abuse or neglect, my immediate action would be to contact Child Protective Services (CPS). Reporting is crucial, and once filed with CPS, immunity from legal consequences is ensured. To recognize signs of abuse, I would refer to resources like the pamphlet “Protecting the Abused and Neglected Child” provided by CPS. If suspicions arise, I wouldn’t try to interview the child or handle it myself, as CPS is responsible for investigating. The CPS contact number would be accessible among emergency numbers. It’s crucial not to inform parents in most cases, following policies outlined in the parent handbook about being a mandated reporter committed to reporting any suspicion of child abuse or neglect.

MemberDecember 11, 2023 at 6:43 amIf I suspected child abuse, my first priority would be the safety and well-being of the child. I would follow the proper procedures and reporting protocols established by the childcare facility or organization. This typically involves reporting my concerns to the designated authority or child protective services. It’s crucial to document any observations or information that led to the suspicion, ensuring accuracy in the report.

I would discuss it with my supervisor and we would go over procedure and make a call to cps if needed. I would want my supervisor to have knowledge of what’s going on as well as being supported.

MemberDecember 12, 2023 at 2:19 amI would have to give it time to actually collect more evidence before reporting to CPS. Usually there would be repeat behaviors and actions from the child if there was any abuse occurring. I definitely don’t want to assume the abuse, so I want to make sure I have some decent facts. I also wouldn’t interview the child, as that would be CPS’s job. And in the meantime during all of this, I would comfort the child, be supportive, and take the opportunity to understand their emotions.

MemberDecember 18, 2023 at 4:55 pmIt’s very important to follow procedure if there is suspected abuse or neglect. I am not the investigator I am a mandated reporter. So I follow the proper procedure to file the report and allow the investigation take place.

I will tell my supervisor and between the two of us we will make the respective report to the help line and from there Social Services will carry out the relevant investigations to determine if it is abuse or neglect.
