If I suspected child abuse or neglect, I would immediately report my concerns to the relevant child protection authorities or local law enforcement. It’s crucial to ensure the safety and well-being of the child by taking appropriate and swift action, following the legal reporting requirements in the specific jurisdiction.

If I had reasonable cause to suspect child abuse, I would report it.

I would check with my co-workers and my supervisor to ensure that I am not just assuming too much and ask them for the policy on reporting to CPS and help my supervisor handle the situation as I want to ensure the greatest care of each one of my students.

I would try to gather as much information as I could, before making assumptions about abuse. It may not be obvious if/when abuse is occurring. In these situations, I might with a trusted peer or supervisor first.

What would you do if you suspected child abuse or neglect? If I suspected child abuse or neglect I would go to my supervisor so that I had someone to also see what I was seeing possibly and to get another point of view before also going and contacting CPS and following those instructions.

If I suspected child abuse, I would immediately go to the lead teacher and inform them while providing evidence as to why I believe that. When reporting to the lead, I would include any necessary detail and see if we were on the same page, then allow them to handle it from there. The child always comes first so I would ensure that they are safe before anything else.

Document first, and I always try to compare what I notice with other staff that care for the child. I know that for these young children, we might be the only ones to be able to see signs, since they aren’t in school yet. If I feel the child is unsafe, I call.

I would discuss what I have seen with my supervisor because she has been working in a classroom longer than myself. Together we could then see if we should escalate and have us contact CPS.

If I suspected it I would talk with my lead teacher to see if their seeing the signs of abuse or if the child is acting different or has bruises and marks on them and just have all the information and everything together before taking it to cps to be able to stop this child from getting neglected and abused

I would call the proper people and/or CPS. From there I would give them all the information for the child involved and then let the authorities take it from there.
