MemberFebruary 3, 2024 at 9:30 amI would check with my co-workers and my supervisor to ensure that I am not just assuming too much and ask them for the policy on reporting to CPS and help my supervisor handle the situation as I want to ensure the greatest care of each one of my students.

I would try to gather as much information as I could, before making assumptions about abuse. It may not be obvious if/when abuse is occurring. In these situations, I might with a trusted peer or supervisor first.

If I suspected child abuse or neglect I would go to my supervisor so that I had someone to also see what I was seeing possibly and to get another point of view before also going and contacting CPS and following those instructions.

MemberFebruary 9, 2024 at 9:51 pmIf I suspected child abuse, I would immediately go to the lead teacher and inform them while providing evidence as to why I believe that. When reporting to the lead, I would include any necessary detail and see if we were on the same page, then allow them to handle it from there. The child always comes first so I would ensure that they are safe before anything else.

Make sure I have concrete evidence or facts to back the claim, and talking to my supervisor or director before reporting anyone.
