GuestNovember 14, 2024 at 1:05 amKids usually love things that are messy or involve magnets. After messy activities is a good time to practice handwashing because the mess is visible and they can see if they get it all off.
-
Heather, I agree! Messy activities and magnets are great for engaging children in science and promoting learning.

GuestNovember 17, 2024 at 10:04 pmThe volcano experiment is a favorite of mine and popular amongst children.
We made it fun by allowing children to participate and try themselves. I gave children a small plate with baking soda so they have their own “mini version” of the volcano. We had cups of vinegar, dyed in different colors with food coloring. With a small pipet, the children would grab different colors of vinegar and pour over their baking soda to see a reaction.
To make things engaging, we first showed videos of a real volcano to get their interest.
Seeing bubbles from the reaction encouraged children to keep playing and make observation. This also made it easier for children to ask why this reaction was happening.

Great use of hands-on activity and visual aids to engage children in science exploration!

GuestNovember 18, 2024 at 2:21 amI would conduct a fun and interactive activity to show children the importance of washing our hands. Using washable paint to represent invisible microbes, I would ask the kids to rub the paint on their hands. This would demonstrate how microbes, though not visible, stick to our hands.
Next, I would guide them through a “pretend handwashing” with water only, showing how some “microbes” (paint) might still remain. Then, I’d have them wash their hands properly with soap and water, emphasizing how thorough washing helps remove all the “microbes.”
This hands-on activity would help them visually understand why proper handwashing is crucial to staying healthy, while also being fun and memorable.

Valeria’s hands-on handwashing activity effectively demonstrates the importance of proper hygiene in a fun, engaging way.

GuestDecember 4, 2024 at 8:55 pmHandwashing can be made fun by using different colored or puffy soaps. You can also teach kids a song to sing along while scrubbing for the 15-20 seconds.

GuestDecember 5, 2024 at 3:53 amThings to make hand washing easier would be to sing ABCs or counting to 30. Another good idea would be a role model and wash your hands with the children.

1. Sing a Song:
• Use songs like “Happy Birthday” (twice) or make up a fun handwashing song to keep them entertained while scrubbing for 20 seconds.
2. Glitter Germs Activity:
• Sprinkle glitter on their hands to represent “germs,” then demonstrate how soap and water remove the glitter completely.
3. Handwashing Heroes:
• Turn handwashing into a superhero mission: “Defeat the germs!” Kids can imagine the soap as their superpower.
4. Color-Changing Soap:
• Use color-changing or foamy soap to make the process more exciting. Kids love seeing changes as they wash.
5. Handwashing Chart/Rewards:
• Create a reward system with stickers for washing hands properly throughout the day.
-
Sara, your creative and interactive handwashing activities, like Glitter Germs and superhero missions, make hygiene fun and engaging for children. Great ideas!
