One of my favorite hands-on science activities is exploring colors and letting them mix their own new colors up. Children are provided different small bottles of colored water, plastic droppers, and ice cube trays. This activity provides so many opportunities to explore, have discussions and question what might happen if we add one color to another and how they may differ with more or less of one color. It provides lots of open-ended possibilities, opportunities to build on their language and vocabulary skills, and engage in fun with their peers and teachers. Another benefit is strengthening their fine motor skills by using their small muscles as they squeeze the droppers.
