Some creative ways to get children engaged in learning can be planting and using recycled bags and string to make kites. Children can germinate their own seeds in a bag with a wet paper towel and discuss how it looks like and why it grows until it is planted in soil. For plastic/paper bag kites, we can discuss and explore different ways to make kites, tie the rope so it’ll catch air, or what they need to do so the kite can fly such as run or walk. We can also discuss weather conditions and so on.

I think it’d be good to schedule around the times children eat. It shouldn’t be too close or far apart. Then, I would take into consideration the best time it is for children to go outside and when it’s good for carpet/table times. Overall, I think it is important to have a fixed routine, but be flexible depending on the needs of the day. If the schedule change, I usually find it helpful to inform children about the change so they don’t get confused.

I think a clean, safe, organized, welcoming, and well lit environment is important. Often times, I see classes or outside space littered with toys. There’s too much stimulation where it become a safety hazard. Other times, I see children running outside with broken pipes on the wall which is dangerous especially with toddlers. Also, teachers who have a welcoming personality or smile makes a difference when children arrive. It can help set the tone for the child’s day.

I would share my observation with my co-teacher and get their insight before looking up helpful programs that a family can use to assist their child. I would have all my information, or as much as possible, ready at hand before approaching the family. Ideally I would share my observation of their child and ask for their opinions. I would also advise there are programs available if they would like further assistance.

I think observing and documenting a child’s development help providers see what each child is capable of. It also helps provider see the timeframe it took a child to learn something or their lack of ability to do something. It can also help providers plan activities catered to a specific child or a group of children.

Normally, I’d prefer no screen time for kids but, sometimes, there are exceptions. For example, when there are days with no other teacher in the classroom. It can be helpful to have the children listen and watch a book so I can quickly set up lunch or lay their cots down. It depends on the situation, but overall, I don’t agree on screen time when it isn’t necessary.

I would politely ask her if she’d like to rearrange for a different pick-up time to work around her schedule along with the childcare hours. It’s her decision for the change to be temporary or permanent. If she doesn’t want to change and late pick-up become an ongoing issue, I’d ask the supervisor to speak to Mrs. Hopkins during drop off to see if there is a solution.

2) Parent’s are the childrens primary educators. Childcare providers should work with parent’s and provide the necessary support in order for children to thrive to the best of their ability.
