I have seen first hand that there are detrimental impacts of elongated screen time. Due to this, children should be given screens at no younger than the age of two and limit it to 30 minutes a day until they are at least 8.

Early learning providers should be engaging and responsive to all their students as each child uses their voices, whether that be by crying or using words, to convey their wants and needs. By teaching students that their words and sounds matter, they are able to learn the power of communication.

I would first inquire as to why it is happening because various causes may call for various reactions. I would then try to empathize with the parent and demonstrate my understanding of how severe their issues are and how hard they are working. In a reasonable, non-emotional manner, I would emphasize the importance of being on time. For example, I would mention that we are unable to keep kids in the building beyond closure due to licensing restrictions, that kids who stay later than anticipated might have to pay more in tuition, etc. Then I would try to come up with backup plans and solutions that could either help the parent arrive on time or designate a different approved person to pick up the child if the parent is unable to do so.

While completing the activity, I was able to grasp the wide variety of guidelines that the WACs provide for child care professionals. Something that surprised me about this is the level of detail that WACs provide because I previously thought they were all going to be vague and informal to cover a wider range. I can see how these WACs will make me a better child care professional for young children. This way I know the expectations and limitations of my job.
