Immediately offering a solution that might not be useful to what the child needs prior to hearing the problem can often make things worse. Instead, talking through a problem calmly and then finding a solution together is better for the child. </p>

I&#8217;m a mandated reporter and it&#8217;s my job to call in any suspected abuse or neglect.</p>

This is also what I was most surprised by.
