By letting the child talk and communicate with you while you are actively listening and after they communicate, you meet their needs like if they need some alone time allowing them to sit down by themselves for a minute to calm down shows the child that you listened and acted based on their needs.

Start with trust exercises so children can get comfortable and warmed up, then incorporate music or games or both into the mix, this will engage the children and make them thing doing something like clean up or nap time seem like more of a fun game.

You can make healthy habits fun by incorporating fun colors and shapes and making it like a game to keep the child engaged.

My advice would be to make sure there’s open communication, and when there are issues, coming up with an effective solution quick or taking the precautions to do so. Making sure to ask lots of questions and gathering as much information as possible.

I would want a clean and safe environment, Knowledge on the proper care of the children, and my child to be treated fairly.

Three fears are abuse, my child not getting the proper tools to cater to their learning needs, and being influenced by others.

I would invite the parents to tour the facility and show them things like, sanitation stations, restrooms, kitchen, classrooms, changing stations, and emergency stations.

A creative way to engage children would be a show and tell time where children are supposed to bring something related to a special theme and they each get to share that special item. This is a good way to get children to speak about their culture while also learning about each others.

I think children would love to be incorporated in creating the schedule. Have a set breakfast, lunch and dinner times. Then add in any classroom time, recess, nap time and pickup time. let them decide the order some days? Positive reinforcement also would work great with this.

I think a warm and inviting room with lots of vibrant colors are important, the child should feel as comfortable as possible and like they can be free of all judgement or harm. Somewhere they can always look forward to coming back to. This can create trust and spark creativity with the children.

I think the most crucial steps are to prepare yourself for how the conversation could end up, it can be hard for someone to hear and some parents could be difficult or emotional. Make sure to have plenty of supporting evidence. Be very gentile and understanding. Then provide clear steps as to what they can now do to best help the child.

Documenting and observing a child’s development helps providers understand what the child may not know how to communicate. It also helps providers establish what kind of teaching and care they need and can help them build curriculum which in turn sets the child up for success.
