After the children come inside from afternoon recess, we have our nap time and meditation. Some of our older students have grown out of nap and could use this time for focused breathing and meditation. This has shown to be positive in centering the children and helps me bring down the level of excitement after recess.

The environment should be designed around the child. Everything in our classroom environment is for the child’s developmental needs and is open for the child to use daily. We have areas in the classroom like language, math, practical life, and sensorial. The child has freedom to choose heir own work within our classroom. This is empowering and liberating for the child.

I would talk to the parent abut what I noticed right away and ask if they had noticed the same at home. If I get an agreeable response then I would follow up with the checklist I will be using. I can show the list to the parent and have them fill it out at home and I do the same in the classroom. I would also like to hear some of the situations at home, for example the environment situation and time of day since they are different from the school environment and school routine. We can schedule a meeting then compare notes and agree to what works for the child to be successful.

Observation is needed to understand children’s individual development and providing them with appropriate activities, interactions and environment. I need to observe the child on what they know and build on that data that was collected from the observation. In order for the child to be successful then I need meet the child at their level first before I build more.

Screen time for young children is not necessary. I think the environment around them has plenty of stimulation that is better for the child’s development. When my children were in childcare after school, they were given a short period of screen time during the young toddler’s nap time. That made the screen time special because it was something to look forward to as “a big kid”. But the young toddlers didn’t get any screen time.

I use pictures for our serve and return opportunities. With our first snowfall of the season I ask families to share their winter photo adventures. The children were given the opportunity to do an art project with the photos and we shared their work during morning circle time, (show-and-tell style).

I would empathize with the reason given for the lateness and explain to the parent that the child relies on a their schedule and routine. One way we can both help the child be successful is if we stay to the schedule and show respect to him that his time with family is just as important as school.

People respond to each others’ differences many ways. We would like to teach our students to listen to others before reacting and keep an open mind. Yes, our views can change. With life experience or receiving advice from someone we respect we can change our minds often.

I found out there is lots of information that I use daily from WAC. What surprised me most was the detail that can be found in each code. For example WAC 110-300-0005 is dedicated to definitions but this is completely necessary for review. I use the WAC codes often, for example I was asked if a parent can bring lip balm for their child. I had to refer to the WAC code for reference before I could answer the parent. I just want to make sure I was giving the correct information and keeping everyone safe.
