I feel by actively listening to the student and allowing them to express themselves they will work through their emotions on their own. But it may be okay to guide them to show them what they might be feeling. After you may give solutions or alternative ways for the child to express themselves.

You can also try to make the project a reward and make it seem fun. One last thing you might do is do your own project with them while they are also doing their’s.
