  • Being consistent with your schedule is important, while still being flexible when necessary. I like to see schedules visually, so printing them out is helpful!

    I think it’s important for the environment to be warm, welcoming, and safe, with a variety of opportunities for children to develop in different ways.

  • Working with a co-worker on a script, good documentation of the child’s development, strong knowledge of typical child development, and resources at-hand for parents to support their child.

  • Observing and documenting a child’s development is important because it allows early learning providers to understand what that individual child may need in terms of support or what milestones they are hitting.

    In my opinion, children absolutely do not need screen time below the age of 2, and it should generally be avoided for children older than 2. In childcare, children should not be having screen time, because they get enough of it at home.

    Early learning providers can create a “serve and return” environment by being responsive to a child who is trying to communicate. It is important for care providers to know how different children communicate and to follow their cues when indicated

    I would clarify to Mrs. Hopkins when her child needs to be picked up by and any policies the facility has regarding late fees. I would then ask her if she has something going on that may prevent her from picking up her child, and work with her if this is the case. I would also discuss with her how this affects her child, who may feel as though they are being left behind.

    The WACs emphasize the importance of diversity, and that all children and families must be respected. They also emphasize how professionals must collaborate with families to best honor their children’s background and encourage their development
